If this story were true (which it is not), I would be more interested in knowing why God decided to kill every living creature, including children and animals that could not have been guilty of anything.

The term unclean and clean has to do with animals that we can eat and not eat. It has nothing to with how clean the animal itself.
He created them for the same reason he created us. Cause he could and cause he wanted to.
