The Holocaust happened because the Jews were considered the killers of Christ, and Hitler (Catholic) despised them. Where did he get the idea that the Jews were the killers of Christ? From the Bible. Hitler and the Holocaust are discussed in some depth in "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins.

From a speech given by Hitler in 1922:

"How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. Today, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross." (Dawkins 275)

If you mean the church, then none.

There are three great lies spoken about World War II and God's emissary on Earth, the Vatican concerning the holocaust.

The first is that they were against the Nazis. Pope Pius not only knew Hitler personally after being the Archbishop of Munich, he helped fund the establishment of the Nazi Party in Vatican gold in the early 1920's.

The second was the the Vatican saved thousands of Jews. Actually what they did was sell to wealthy jews false papers created by the Vaticans staff. But if you were poor like the Jews in the ghetto next door to the Vatican, not one was saved. A verifiable and shockingly true fact.

The third was that the church did not know what was going on. Himmler didn't just map the SS on the Jesuits, the SS were given priestly powers. Why do you ask?

Do you really think people actually died in the gas chambers before being "burnt" in the ovens? The numbers don't add up!
The gas chamber wasn't to kill them, it was to knock them out.

All the furnace stretchers recovered from the camps had chains to lock people on them. A fact rarely mentioned. They were burnt alive, the same as the Vatican did for hundreds of years prior to other non-catholics.

Evil, pure evil that continues to infect our world.

Untold millions. If the Christians hadn't gone in there and shut the Nazis down, they would still be carrying out their program of forced euthenasia.

To the poster above, I don't know what 'Christianity' she thinks endorses the Holocaust as an act of God - that is the most abhorant thing I have ever heard.

The idea that the Nazis targeted Jews for religious reasons is off-base. Nazi propaganda maintained that the Jews were at the head of a global conspiracy to ravage the German economy, and that they had intentionally interbred with 'pure' Aryans in attempt to subvert the Nordic bloodline. The Holocaust was motivated by racial hatred. Hitler convinced the Germans to support the Nazi regime through an appeal to Neitzche and Darwin, insisting that the 'Superman' was the Aryan, and that all other 'inferior' races were nothing more than highly evolved animals.

It amazes me how people have re-written well established history in order to shift responsibility for the Holocaust from German existentialism, atheism, nihilism and Darwinian evolution to Christianity. That is exactly how Hitler maintained his grip on Germany - he replaced actual education with socialist propaganda.

I was blessed to have as my school janitor, a holocaust survivor. He was a mixed Polish/Jew and a Christian. He was the most steadfast Christian I have ever known. I can safely say that a lot of people were saved out of the holocaust, and I was blessed to have met one. He even had the Nazi tattoo to prove it.

Apparently, it was God's plan for them to die. Or at least that is what the Christian view believes. I don't understand this, but who knows? Hope to read some interesting answers

Utuk: I didn't mean to imply that God endorsed the Holocaust. I meant that when people die it is because it is God's plan. That's what plenty of Christians say when asked for example, why did so and so die?

not as many as people who where wrongfully killed alas, you cant use that as an excuse for god, as far as the holocaust is concerned, thats like saying murdering a child in his house is ok just because you technically didnt kill his whole family.
