If you are going to visit Rome I suggest to you to buy this Rome pass card:

20 euro for a 3-day pass!
You have:
- 2 museums free of charge (also Colliseum, Vatican Museums and Capitoline Museums)
- Transport free of charge (bus, metro underground, train)
- Reductions for all other museums and major events

The admission charge was about 10 euros, but don't be put off by the tour people out the front, we paid 20 euros each for a guided tour inside the colliseum (very little is labelled otherwise) and then an hours tour of the Forum and an hours tour of Pallentine hill. The guides were amazing, really made everything come alive for us and it was worth EVERY penny! We were really hesitant, not wanting to be ripped off, but honestly it is ne of the best things we did and was all day fun.
PS there are also some great cheap pizza/pasta places just around the back of the Colliseum (as you look at the front entrance) we had one of the best meals in one for lunch
