The cruise line may tell you to arrive after 2:00 PM but if you get there earlier you will be able to board earlier, typically by about 1:00PM. Depending upon the port there may be a lounge to wait in; some are very nice, Like Miami and LA and some are bad, like Boston and New Jersey. You may not be able to get to your cabin at that time but the food buffet will be open and you can walk around the ship.

When you arrive at the port to check in you (each passenger) will receive a key card which will serve as your room key, charge card for anything you buy on ship (i.e.,drinks, souvenir) and its also your pass to get on and off ship in each port. When you first board the ship the security personnel will have you insert your key card into a scanner and then will take a photo of you that is included in the magnetic strip on the card. Each time you get off ship you will need this key card and many times also a photo ID (passport or driver's license). This card allows them to keep an accurate track of all passengers entering and/or leaving the ship. Infants and small children may be required to wear an ID bracelet (like in the hospital) in lieu of carry a card. Guests cannot accompany you aboard. So tell them bye at the curb.

Not sure what you are asking. So after you check in and set up your on board account you will be given your room key which is also used for purchases and leaving & boarding ship at ports of call you will walk to your ship where they will offer to take your picture and then you board and you can go to your room & check it out out & then do whatever you want until your cruise is over. Hope this helps.

I got to the Terminal around 1pm and there was a huge line (it was steadily moving though). Ship left at 5:00pm.
