I'm a pensioner and I would like to see my friend in kathmandu whilst I'm still on this planet. I have a VERY LIMITED income. Is there any way I can travel to Nepal very cheaply such as by cargo ship? If so, how do I contact them? Or any other suggestions? Thanks

Nepal is completely landlocked by the himalayas, so the best you could do is get to India (Bombay or somewhere) and then travel overland the rest of the way by bus and/or train. I'm not sure I'd recommend this for a pensioner - it's more a gap-year student kind of thing, for the adventurous traveller.

Is there any real reason why you can't fly? That is almost certain to be the cheapest and most direct route. A quick look online shows return flights in June/July coming out at about £530 including taxes (London Heathrow via Qatar), with most other airlines averaging £500 return plus tax. I'm not sure a ship would be any cheaper. Even travelling through the Suez canal to save time, it would probably still take at least two or three weeks travelling time to get from the UK to India, more if it travels round the African cape, and then you're still facing a couple of days bus or train travel to Nepal. I wouldn't wish that kind of trip on anyone.

My advice: take the plane.

specific, purely verify you have a great number of foodstuff and water and which you drill adequate holes on your packing crate. lol specific, many freighters address a constrained form of passengers different than the group, it is going to fee you a strategies under the fee of a cruise deliver - butt the lodging would be much less lavish / proper than those of a cruise deliver.
