She said that she doesn't want to give me a second chance yet and that we should be friends for a while. Is this her way of giving me a second chance and testing me? Or is she keeping me on the backburner? How should I react to this? Not be so available or just tell her to call me when she wants to be together and that I don't want to be friends?

I think that you should be friends. She is not necessarily testing you. She may genuinely need a little time to sort out her mind and see you in a different light. Sometimes being friends gives people a distance they need to see clearly.
You should be available as you would to any friend. Don't make any rash decisions based on an immediate emotional reaction. Afterall, you do care about her enough to want to try again. So, show her how much she really means to you by respecting her request. She will be happy, respect you more, and eventually see that you can be relied upon on a basic human level. This will draw her closer to you rather than apart, if she does want to give it another shot. If you give her an ultimatum now, she will more likely back off.

Do YOU want to be friends? Probably not. She either is trying to let you down easy or she's being manipulative and stringing you along in case she can't find someone else. You probably already know the answer. Either way, she doesn't deserve you. Move on. You have too much self respect to put up with this or you wouldn't be questioning her behavior. She's missed out on a great guy and given you ample reason to move on if you were having any doubts! Leave her in the dust by finding a great gal who appreciates you!

Been there done that with my hubby he cheated on me and i told him the same thing. It is a test to see if you do still love her. She wants to make sure you want her and that you will do anything to keep her even just being friends for now. If i were you i would put your energy and time into your wife and kids if you have any. Its is hard to forget and forgive.

probably both, she probably doesnt want to give up but shes not gunna tell you that and give u the upper hand lol and probably to see what happens cause theres a great big world out there... If you really do want to be with her... you need to be her friend like shes asking you.. but you also need to go out on dates (friendship) dates with other women... NO SLEEPING WITH THEM NO KISSING that way she will know that your not going to wait around for her if all she really wants is friendship.. but once she gets wind of the fact that your going on a date (heck tell her yourself) you will probably see a fairly jealous side of her and if you dont its really there i gaurentee it she just doesnt want to give you the satisfaction of knowing shes jealous BUT be careful... Dont play her games and allow you to use you as a booty call cause if shes using you as a booty call theres other men too....

May be she is just trying to assess you in your behaviour if you are genuine or just plahying a game. If you are genuine and really want to go back with her, then give her a chance to see that you are genuine. And, boy, prove it to her that you ARE!
She has every right to be careful! Once beaten twice is shy!!
