Alright, I'm new here, and I've been reading these NASCAR questions and answers (obviously there'll be a lot more during the race season) and I've noticed that, when someone writes something less than flattering about Jeff Gordon, his fans become simultaneously defensive & aggressive, calling them 'haters', and typically writing, 'you must be a Jr. fan'. So, why do they assume that only Jr. fans dislike Gordon?
Opinions anyone?
And for the record, I don't particularly care for either one.

So far, only Nascar Momma has come close to the point-she seems to think that the ones using the word "haters" (JG fans)are themselves haters (hate Jr.)....interesting.

I think it's just a rivalry. yeah some jr. fans hate him but they're both great drivers. But I think Gordon haters are probably mostly Matt Kenseth fans now (the shove).

I am a Gordon fan, but I am not fanatical about it. I think the natural defense mechanism for Gordon fans is to assume the "haters" are Jr fans is because they are natural rivals. But it is a huge generalization. There are fans of all drivers that "hate" Gordon. A lot of it has to do with the success. As with successful teams and athletes in all sports, people tire of constant winning. Look at the Lakers in the 80's. When they started to stink in the 90's, people loved it. Just as they were rooting agains the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game a couple weeks back. They want to see somebody else win. Plus, Gordon started winning at a young age when it was not the norm in NASCAR. People felt he had not paid his "dues" and should not be winning until he had been driving for a while. What most people do not know is that he has been driving competitively since he was a young boy, so to say he has not paid his "dues" is completely inaccurate. There will always be Gordon "haters" out there just as with any very successful athlete. Like I said, the generalization about these "haters" being Jr. fans is a mistake. Fans of all drivers dislike Gordon, but the Jr fans are the highest in number and therefore, have the most vocal presence when it comes to voicing their dislike.

Not all of Dale Jr's fans dislike Jeff Goron. Yes..I admit that a number of Dale Jr fans strongly dislike Jeff Gordon but all of us are not like that. I'm a Dale Jr fan and I don't see anything wrong with Jeff Gordon, I myself believe that he is by far one of the top 5 greatest drivers of all time. My mother is a Jeff Gordon fan and I am a lifetime member of the Dale Jr Nation!
The reason why so many are quick to say that Dale Jr's fans dislike Jeff Gordon is because of the rivarly between Jeff and Dale Jr. They both are the most popular drivers in the sport, they are two of the most talented, and they seem to get the most attention.
A strong reason why so many Nascar fans dislike Jeff is because of the way he carries himself on and off the track. Look at when he stood there and pushed Matt Kenseth after the race at Bristol. Then when they got to Chicago he flat out punted Matt out of the way to get a win and did not apologize to Matt nor Matt's team. Jeff is seen as a crybaby because when things do not go his way he cries out it and blames the other drivers for things that he himself causes. He never takes the blame for anything...even when he himself caused it. Those are some of the reasons why SOME Nascar fans dislike him. It's not just some Jr fans who dislike Jeff...it's fans of other drivers as well.
Just because some fans dislike him, that does not mean that we all feel the same way. Just because some fans act a certain way, does not mean that we all act the same way.
STOP PLACING US ALL IN THE SAME CATEGORY BECAUSE WE ARE NOT ALL THE SAME!

i'm a die troublesome Earnhardt fan, yet, i'm married to a die troublesome Gordon fan! pass determine. i do not cheer even as all people crashes, besides the actual shown reality that i don't experience authentic undesirable even as Gordon has automobile issues (he-he), and that i does no longer waste a Bud to throw it at Gordon. yet i trust the competition will stay to inform the tale with actual motive force followers. i guess thats why i'm no longer a "crew" fan. now and again it variety of appears like a warfare at homestead even as they're racing one yet another, or its an in intensity race. So in answering your question, i do not imagine a lot will replace with the followers! The competition is extremely fierce interior the stands on the races i have been to.

I don't understand the rivalry, but most people who like Jeff Gordon, hate Dale Jr, and visa-versa. I am a Gordon fan, and I really don't like Jr. but that has nothing to do with Gordon, I just don't like Jr. Even if I did not like Gordon, I still would not like Jr. I did not like Jr. before the i knew that the fans had a rivalry. I just don't like him, I think that he is not that great. I think that he is only there because of his Daddy. The rivalry makes no sense to me really. I think that in reality, Jr. and Gordon are friends. Actually I think it stems from when Earnhardt Sr. was racing and Jeff Gordon was beating him, and Sr's fans and haters, just passed that through to the next generation. I am not sure though, because I did not get into NASCAR until after Earnhardt.
The rivalry that would make sense would be Johnson and Stewart since their sponsors are rivals, or Jr. and Kurt Busch.

My two favorite drivers are Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr. I'm new to answers,longtime Nascar fan and hadn't realized how rare that was..... I save my 'hating' for Tony Stewart.

I am not a fan of Junior and I do not "hate" Gordon but I do not like the politics that took place when he came from Busch to Cup.He had a signed contract with Ford for Cup.But some law suits were filled by a certain owner and the contract was voided the rest has been sealed and silenced.

I'm an Earnhardt fan. I hate Gordon cause he whines and cries about everything that he does to people on the track that do it to him. To put the Gordon haters being only Dale Jr fans......Gordons sponsor is DuPont. DuPont is based in Delaware. NOBODY, I mean NOBODY in Delaware likes Gordon. So basically theres other driver fans that hate him too.

Not all Gordon haters are Jr. fans. People rate Gordon according to his attitude, personality, driving skills/ability and reputation on and off the track. Off the track, he tries to make others believe that he is "all that and a sprocket too". Yet he displayed his true colors including his integrity with his affair involving another man and woman (caught on tape by Brooke, his exwife), in addition to the way he degrades other drivers that he was not able to beat on the track. He does not ever take responsibility for his actions, he passes the buck and the blame. He whines constantly. He tried to establish himself as a "pretty boy" and in my opinion he has no lips and talks out of both sides of his mouth. He wouldnt know the term honor if it bit him in the butt.

You have got it all wrong! Not most of Gordon haters are Jr. fans they're a mixture of everyone! Gordon is a cocky, self-absorbed short little ******! I've seen him shun a mentally challenged fan and watched others drivers go out of their way to greet this fan! He thinks he's all that and he sucks! He's ugly and fake! And so that you know! I'm a Stewart fan! Go Smoke!!!!
