Not untill the roads are so congested that we cant move and the air is so polluted that we cant breath without some chemical assistance and untill the Americans realise that huge gas guzzling cars are anti social .
Just wait till the Chinese get organised with their roads and the ordinary chinese man can afford a car , then we will really see pollution

The American economy is geared around motorised-transport, so in order for it to function, people will be allowed to drive.
The same is increasingly true in the UK, where the alternative forms of transport are either extremely expensive or unreliable.
If either governments want a revolution, it should be interesting to see what happens if they use taxation on motoring as a source of revenue for new alternative forms of transport.
Taxation is already the cash cow which maintains more or less full employment in the UK, but further tax-hikes would be political suicide.
Meanwhile, the politicians will pat each other on the back if they manage to reduce vehicle emissions by 10%, even if that would not have much of an effect overall.

Oh thats easy! As long as it takes the Democrats to get it done. If you enjoy your freedom of choice and do not want government interferring with your life and well being, vote Libertarian (no such thing as global warming by the way, this is just one of the latest democrats scare tactics) the only way the planet could be getting warmer is if the sun is radiating more heat. There is nothing we can do about that. When Mount St. Helens erupted it put more hydrocarbons and emissions in the atmosphere in 3 days than all of the emissions from all engines that have ever been built. So why should anybody think that man could be responsible for it.,,,that is, unless you are stupid enough to vote for a democrat.

Have to agree with Stef. After world production has hit its peak (if it has not already happened), the price of oil will skyrocket even higher than it did in recent history. People will be forced by simple ECONOMY to not use their vehicles any more. Only those with the actual cash to afford it will continue using large vehicles than run on fossil fuels.
During the last extreme gas-price hike, we saw the number of motorcycles triple in our neighborhood, as they use less gasoline. We also saw more people using bicycles, and there were even news bites about people riding their horses and other equines to work. One day our streets may very well be full of bicycles, motorcycles, and animal transport. We'll end up looking like those 1960's films on China.
Someone else said something about China and cars? Its already happened. Several Chinese cities have made cycling illegal partly because they get in the way of motor cars, and partly because the air is so polluted that soon riders would have to wear an oxygen tank just to breath...walkers and bikers are already wearing surgical masks in an attempt to keep pollutants out of their lungs, and seem to be failing miserably.

Well first of all, humans are not making a significant contribution to global warming. The effects in the atmosphere we have called "global warming" are more likely the result of a cycle the earth has always been in. I think we will always be allowed to use motor vehicles. I think the days of the petrol-gas engine are numbered though. With biodesiel and electric starting to become viable alternatives I think we are more inclined to switch. Not because we don't like petrol based gas, but because these newer motors will be more effecient and effective, not to mention we won't have to finance governments who's sole purpose is to remove us from the face of the earth. my two cents ;-)

oh you will still be able to drive for some time yet but you will have to pay more for it which will mean you won't be able to afford to work and then you won't need a car. strange yet confusing.
i dont see why the government does not clamp down on engine sizes now. not everyone needs a big engined car. all cars should come in one litre only then we would save millions of gallons of fuel and cut down on emissions at the same time.

It won't come to that...we'll run out of oil first. It's not a question of not being allowed but a question of not being able to!
