Adopting 5 month old pom who is paper trained, how do I keep this up when she gets home?

Do I put papers down where I want her to go? And do all poms have to be crate trained? Or is that until they are paper trained?

I own 2 poms myself.....First, she will not know what or where her boundaries are. She will be a little nervous at first - just adjusting to her new situation. Have patients.

My suggestion is to lay the papers where you want her to go and put her on the papers. Tell her to "go potty" or whatever magic word you want to use with her. You're going to have to do this process often. Once she gets the idea that, that is where she is suppose to go, praise, praise, praise!! Don't ever spank her...that will just give her reason to distrust you. After a few days, if she still is having trouble knowing where she is suppose to go, there are pee pads that are scented with artificial dog urine. That will help her distinguish where and what she is suppose to be doing.

I agree with Mamby. A couple of suggestions...
Ask what brand of paper pads is she used to or is it just newspaper, and you might even ask to take a slightly used one home with you. The smell will tell her that that is where she should go. Decide before you get her where you are going to put the pad and put it there from the very first. Then be sure that she knows where it is and how to get there. It would be good if you could confine her to that room the first couple of days until she knows where her pad is for sure. (Except when you are holding or playing with her)

there are so many ways of training animals for potty duty.. paper train is great ..if that pup is already paper trained it will continue.. just put the paper down in a designated area of your home and change everyday.. praise your dog everytime it goes on the paper.. crate training i dont like.. foxi

i have a pom-poo that is litter box trained. dog litter is availabe at large pet stores, and is made of half inch recycled paper balls. put the dog in the litterbox when it is time to release, and reward for a good job! my dog has been "box" trained for 5 years,and beleive it or not, works great, and easy to clean up.
