You are an island of sage advice in a sea of theistic self delusion. I could not agree with you more. You are a voice for countless Atheists and Secular Humanists everywhere.

Yes we should take responsibility for the planet. Those who do take responsibility collectively and individually do so because it is the imperative thing to do. Why should anyone waste time in pretending? Who is being melodramatic humm??

hush: You tell me ? What God instructs us to do for Him has a natural good consequence of benefit for both, mankind and ourselves, as well. As we work feverishly, to avoid any acknowledgement about God, we, as a direct consequence, are rejecting the very things, which promote a healthy and abundant life. This is why Global warming is the kick in the butt - a wake up call to demonstrate to us all, that should we collectively decide to go on and do our own thing, we will feel the full brunt of making God irrelevant in our individual lives. People will continue to pollute to make $ and worship materialism as their "god", instead. The days of assuming both, accountability and responsibility for ones actions have gone the way of evolution - divergence into self-centeredness and then, into global suicide with our misguided genius. After all - we are doing a fine job without "God" in our knowledge today ! Just look at Iran and North Korea, global warming, severe weather patterns, pending disease epidemics - God ... who needs that ! Science will resolve all of our problems - just look at the world around us !

1. To some people, he's very real. ;)
2. Yes, all those things are very good. But what you failed to mention was that not everyone is as kind as you may be! God is sort of like Santa Claus in a way. He makes you think twice about doing bad.
3.It isn't like you're under peer pressure to do things for God, there are a lot of different levels. Christianity often doesn't have a definite answer and it is up to you to decide for yourself based on your facts and still be able to believe.
4. About pretending to do things for God. You make it seem very different from what it actually is. God can't be used as an excuse to do something.
5. many world wide leaders and succesful or otherwise famous people are Christians. Some things couldn't have been acheived if it wasn't for belief.
6. God isn't something that will fade away...

What is your purpose and your plan for the world in one thousand years to come? How can my individual actions match yours and those of other people? How and who will solve the problems of pollution, epidemics, poverty?...
Dear friends, these and many other problems of the world need to be tackled through world plans and world solutions. And these plans need be guided by human or divine wisdom.
I believe in the divine wisdom, so I am seeking the guidance of the One True God, Who also guides other humble and responsible individuals. We can do nothing for God, but we need His guidance to do effectively our work, individually and collectively, now and in centuries to come.

Absolutely. "God did it" was the only explanation for an ignorant, unsophisticated world.
If you believe in one universal god, you should also realize that this being would have to be evil as much as good. Therefore completely irrelevant to how you live your life.
People who choose to be good to other people are better than people who are coerced into good behavior because they fear punishment.

I think plenty have tried to take responsibility for the planet ... to no avail. What a mess.
The whole purpose of life on Earth is taking responsibility for our own actions ... few have learned this lesson.

Some people don't pretend that they do things for God. Some people actually believe that there is a reason for our existence. But your life must be great knowing that when you die it's game over. It seems pretty hard to believe that we know everything about this universe and ourselves.
