People mean well, but really don't know what to say. It’s like having a miscarriage and people saying "well at least you can have more"
They really mean well but if people would just take a moment and think, they would understand something the best thing to say is nothing and just give a hug, or a pat on the shoulder....

because life will be ok. sure a situation may be hard but life does go on and as time goes on that particular situation does start to fade and therefore things will be all right. take for instance someone who had been cheated on in a relationship. a consolling friend may tell you that everythings going to be ok. of course its not ok that they had been hurt like that but as time goes on the hurt lessens, they find someone who treats them better, everything is now all right.

It's not unusual for people to deny the truth to themselves during hard times. For them, it's a means of trying to insulate themselves from the current harsh reality and/or a form of denial. Other times, it may be an attempt(usually unsuccessful) to avoid hurting someone's feelings.

It means that although things are dire at the moment, you will be able to cope with and work out whatever the problem is. Mainly, the expressions are words of encouragement, sympathy and hope.

Sometimes you really need to say that to convince your inner self more. And to make and lift yourself up more rather than dwell in depression and negativity relentlessly.
Sometimes positive words could give you a forceful effect to stay up and high in your depress and negative moments.....

First to try and cheer people up, and second it's also an expression of hope rather than truth... "if we can all believe it'll be okay, maybe it will".

It's an inappropriate way of saying: I don't want to get involved.
I hate it.
