What does "we don't communicate well" mean?
Anyway this is going to be the best answer you'll ever get.
There are some steps into learning any language,in your case:
1 Learn the alphabet first!
not like that lady who wants to learn the writing too,she should know it by now if she had a bit of interest in Arabic.
2 Learn the pronunciation clearly these two go hand in hand
3 Get an Arabic course book ,which must contain Grammar ! ( I got burnt with Rosetta Stone),it can be on the PC too ,but make sure it is somewhat complete, at least until intermediate.
4 Learn the first 5 chapters ,and always have a little pocket-notebook at your side to write down all the words you don't know. The Arabic word should be at the front page and your native language translated word on the back side.Have a very good LIVE dictionary ,don't rely on all the light internet dictionaries.Get a heavy two-way dictionary.Because once you find the word you have to learn
1 The word family :taxi ,taxi-driver...
2 If there are ,synonyms and lastly
3 The antonym of the word.
Practice with them any chance you get ,and make sure you spend at least one hour a day playing with that language
5. After you completed these 5 chapters ,get a newspaper issue and learn all of the words written there!(this can be on the internet if you can't find one where you live)
Finish one paragraph the first day.
The second day ,the second paragraph.
And then the third day use both the course book and the newspaper (remember ,a paragraph or half a paragraph a day using the word learning method I showed you)
For words you can't find in your dictionary ask natives,or whoever speaks Arabic ,write them down even if you don't know their meanings immediately.
The fourth day add a conversation book as well ,and learn some useful sentences everyday.
Finally you'll have :the newspaper ,Arabic course, a conversation book and Arabic TV or audio CD-s is a must( to get the best out of the language)
This is by far the best language learning method for every serious person wanting to achieve fluency in his target-language

I believe if you replaced the word "belief" with the synonymous word "hypothesis" you wouldn't have a problem. Unless you're completely unthinking, it's impossible to not already have a preconceived ideas about what you're going to learn. There's nothing wrong with already having beliefs, you can't not have them... Anyhow as the result of learning you learn if you were either right, wrong, or somewhat both in your beliefs. Let's take something simple as an example. The Earth moves around the Sun. My Preconceived Hypothesis: From experience I can watch the sun move across the sky. The Earth feels like it's pretty still. So one can only conclude that the Sun is the one who's actually moving. ^The above is however incorrect. The argument against the above is that when you do the math it's a lot simpler for the Earth and planets to be circling the Sun and not everything circling the Earth. Also we can study Venus and note how the dark side of Venus changes (see as Venus goes around the sun different parts of it are lit up showing that it's moving around the Sun). And why it feels like the Earth is not moving is explained because we are in fact "moving with" the Earth. ===== As a side note I disagree with the person who said "beliefs tend to get in the way". That's not true, in fact, most scientific facts are actually "beliefs" before they're proven. You have a belief, you go out and prove that belief. Copernicus believed the Heliocentric model, he went out and proved it.

If time allows, try to get a two or three months language course in an Arabic speaking countries. Damascus, Sana'a and Kairo are popular places for language learners. The universities there often language courses in the summer season at affordable prices. In addition, you will then be fully immersed in the language and have a wonderful cultural experience.

I can tell you from personal experience (as a student of Arabic) that a web site is not a toally sufficient means for learning Arabic. If you are looking for basic conversational skills which can increase your vocabulary then I would recommend Arabic in ten days by Pimsleur. It is available from Barnes & Noble.

well first of all I wouldn't listen to (Ishfaq A) because he has a poor translation of what he wrote ,take it from a person that writes, speaks and reads Arabic:
لازم تتعلم الحروف ،وكيف تلفظهم.
you should learn the letters and there pronunciation first and gradually start to make words and sentences up (but it will obviously take time since it's one of the most difficult languages in the world).
