i've tried remover and was told because it was because it's in my kitchen. i'd rather have painted walls without remodeling the whole thing.

I ran into the same problem in my kitchen. A friend told me to go to a paint store and buy a product called "DIF" It is by a company named Zinsser. It is a wallpaper stripper spray gel. I t works great. It has detailed directions on the back and it's like 4 easy steps. If you cannot find DIF ask the people at the paint store if they have a wallpaper stripper spray gel that they recommend.
You will love it. Good luck. P.S. I painted my kitchen a really pretty light yellow called Heritage Ivory which is by Devoe and then I painted my kitchen ceiling one shade lighter than that but I cannot remember the name. Everyone loves it. It brightens my kitchen so much, but it would of been almost impossible without the stripper spray gel.
You can also use a rolling mop that is very wet with warm water and then scrape the rest off.

there are plenty of expensive ways to strip wallpaper but the best way is a steam cleaner and a putty knife. If it vinyl wallpaper steam lightly then score then steam again and the putty knife will take it right off. It's much quicker than the new ways and is better for your health in the long run. Don't use chemicals on the wall the sheetrock will absorb it and you will smell it a long time. Plus it can make you very sick. My 8 foot hallway took less than an hour to do.
