Ha, for me early on, I was taught that the measure of a man is his sexual conquests, so to build up my self esteem I slept with as many woman as I could.
Eventually though, meaningless sex became unenjoyable. I now find it impossible to have sex with someone unless I have a deeper attraction for them than physical.
I can have a "fun buddy" but it has to be a genuine friend. For some reason, if I can't imagine possible them being the one, then I can't do it. I would much rather be in love with the person I'm having sex with. I would rather be having sex than love someone who doesn't love me. Does that about cover all angles for you?

That's hardly a fair question - it's like asking which is better for survival - food or oxygen? The obvious answer is both. We need both love and sex, we need love just like everyone else needs oxygen and like food, sex does satisfy the cravings and sustains us.
Hope that helps!
Aloha!!
