Imagine a person who is moral, and who puts others before themselves, and who is kind-hearted, loving, etc, etc. A good example, I think, is a typical Buddhist, as Buddhism is essentially an atheist religion, and promotes many of the same virtues that Christianity promotes (and argueably with even more success). Would this person go to Hell? Why or why not?

If you were to ask me, I would say no. I believe that god wishes the world to be good, and if an Atheist does good for the world, he shall be sent to heaven. But that is only a matter of opinion.

According to a strict reading of the Christian Bible, anyone who does not stroke his incredibly fragile ego will get sent to hell. That includes atheists, Buddhists, Pagans, Muslims, Jews, Hindi, and pretty much everyone on the plant Earth.

Why? Because "his ways are not ours", OR "everyone is doomed to hell unless they call upon him and beg his forgiveness for daring to have been born as a human being."

Rubbish.

not a fair question.... every religion thinks that they are legitimate(its just that we dont know which one is which)...depending on your background in terms of places culture and family...your views on things will most likely are affected....so nobody is certain if anyone is going to hell...is not like its certified there is even hell or god or anything...but it is also not certain if there isn't any... but being an aethist is a little harsh its like choosing between black and white...you don't have to be on certain extremities...my best recommendation is just to go agnostic= meaning any religion or non-religion beliefs are given a benefit of a doubt rather than choosing a group that can easily be wrong(cause no religion is proven right without any contradictions and you dont want to be close-minded and not look at things beyond human understandings)....its best to have moderations and being agnostic is just that....not ruling out religions and also non-religion things or any beliefs that could possibly be made

Only God can answer that because only He can read the mind of a person. Sometimes an atheist confronted with a problem or danger, call on God. This is because impossible for anyone not hear or know about God. even if he is an atheist.
Only Jesus Christ died on the cross and resurrected from the dead. Those who believe in Him and follow Him can go to Heaven. Isn't it obvious? A person who does not believe in Jesus Christ would naturally go to Hell.

"Hell is other people."
- Jean Paul Sartre

Or in this case, putting up with christian and other religious nutballs is our hell.

Atheists want the Earth to be our "heaven", and it could be were the populace educated about the realities of science and the ignorance of religion.

This person will not go to Hell, he'll remain in Hell until he besides being kindhearted, loving, etc. acknowledges the existence of the Supreme Being. He's lacking the most important quality (acknowledging God) needed to leave Hell. This material universes (Earth included) are hellish planets where birth, disease, old age and death take place.

They would not, because there is no such place.

But as a side note... a god who would send a loving, caring, kindhearted non-Christian to hell solely because of their choice of religion is not a god that deserves to be worshipped. Period.

No, because their is no such thing. It is just a device created by fear-based religions to get people to join.

No

Only the Atheist who hears and understands the gospel, and then rejects it.

When you hear the gospel, and the reality of it speaks to you--you are faced with a choice. Accept or reject?

Those who have never heard the gospel, or never understood it, will be covered by grace---haveing never reached the "age of accountability." which in the Greek is better stated as the "age of God consciousness."
