Though running can be beneficial for the cardiovascular system it is also hard on the bones. My father had ran for years but had to give it up and swim instead because it created a fracture in his foot. Running can also wear down the knees as well as jolt the spine out of whack.

If you are stuck on the idea of running make sure you get really good running shoes and try to jog lightly. Whatever you do don't pound the pavement. Some people run on grass or sand to avoid the above mentioned problems.

Personally I like speed walking. It is just as beneficial and does not cause bone issues. I have a husky which I must walk anyway so I double time it with the big guy and he really appreciates the extra speed.

A lot of people do not know this but if you run a mile or walk a mile you burn the same amount of calories, one just takes you a bit longer. Yes, it is important to get the heart rate up but speed walking is sufficient for that.

I read a book on health once that stated all you need to do is break a sweat and that all the exercise you need for the day. I would think 3to 4 days a week should be sufficient.

Jog enough to get your heart pumping. 20-30 min jog-enough to break a sweat and it's doing something good for you. Every day or every other day increase by 5-10 more minutes. Only if you can handle it though!

Hello,
I did jogging last year as i was training for the 5k race for life, It is a lot harder than it looks believe me!
The website is probably right as you need to build yourself up slowely to it. What i got told to do was jog on a street where there is lamposts. I got told to jog to one lampost walk two and so on. When you feel like you can do more just build it up to two lampposts walk one and just see how you feel. That's what i did. Don't push yourself too hard to start with otherwise you wont get very far.
Hope this helps.
Good luck and remember to tkae water with you.

I usually jog for about thirty minutes and then do a cool down.
I say take some music with you. It helps the time go by faster.

it depends on the individuals fitness levels you should try to keep yourself at a steady pace and push yourself as much as you can but dont over do it if you injure yourself first time out you wont want to go again having a runing partner of similar fitness levels would be a big help as you could encourage and push each other good look

Build up gradually. Maybe the first day, you should just do 10 mins. It is harder than you think!
