I've noticed many atheists accuse religious people as pushing or forcing their beliefs on others. But I've seen more atheists (not every atheist, I do not generalize) running around, telling Christians and others that their religion is false without giving any evidence, or reasoning for that matter. Why is it that you insist on doing this? Does it make you feel big or smart? Give me reasoning. P.S. I do not believe that science and religion conflict, or that they even co-exist, I believe that religion can be explained through science, and if your going to throw things at me like the theory of evolution or the accretion theory, read the bible more carefully, science and religion are not all that different.

Many atheists go around telling people that religion is wrong for the same reason that many religious people preach in support of their religion: because they believe they are right. Most atheists are just like most religious people; they believe they are right because that's what they were told to believe, usually at a young age (I must admit, that I am one of these people). I think that anyone in any position to argue about religion must have knowledge of the topics they are arguing about, along with the ability to present logical evidence, otherwise they are just ignorant (and I certainly hope I don't fit into this category). Unfortunately, it seems that the majority of the world's population is ignorant, religious or otherwise.

What...???

"...science and religion are not all that different."

I hope you were drunk when you typed this because otherwise you are either nuts or stupid.

The two are as different as night and day. Religion is stagnant and entrenched in the stone carved words of history - it resists change and it is threatened by progress - while science is dynamic - it welcomes and adapts to new understanding - and it's free to look under all the rocks, big and small, and behind all the stars, near and far, for it's next leap forward into the ultimate truth of all things and into an expanded knowledge based on verifiable and factual evidence.

Why push Atheism..? I don't. I push rational thinking and I do it as a free service for people like you, ignorant people, who seem to have forgotten how to use their brain properly.

Learn to think clearly, use your common sense and a little bit of logic, and you'll most certainly arrive at the only reasonable conclusion... that to believe in God is as irrational as it is to believe in Santa.

There is no need to sell Atheism to anyone - it sells itself.

It's so simple even a child (or a Christian, or a Jew, or a Hindu, or a Muslim, or a caveman) could do it.

I haven't noticed any pushiness from Atheists. Giving an opinion and having a bit of attitude isn't the same as trying to bend one's will your way. Atheists don't proselythise because there isn't a catch. There is no alterior motive - no establishment that wants your money like with churches. As with any group and their collective beliefs, some arrogance always exists, that comes with believing in yourself. However Atheists seem to be a lot more open-minded and their opinions often alter and change, because science is constantly revealing more about this earth we live in. What we know is science, our ignorance is God.

You're right about people pushing beliefs on others, whether it be atheists or theists. I've stated many times that you can't give evidence of something not existing. So atheists say religion/God is false because there is no evidence to support that contention. They don't have to give evidence, because evidence of non-existence is not possible. I understand however that you wish people wouldn't force beliefs on you, but this forum is like that.

Why not live and let live? Why not just say, "Oh, well, if people want to believe that, that's fine." Of course, nobody's stopping people believing whatever they like. The problem is that there's not that much tolerance coming the other way. Things like the opposition to stem-cell research, to abortion, to contraception -- these are all religiously inspired prohibitions on what would otherwise be freedom of action, whether of scientists or individual human beings.

There are religious people who are not content to say, "Oh, well, my religion doesn't allow me to use contraceptives, but I'm quite happy for anybody else to." Instead, we have religiously-inspired prohibitions on aid programs abroad, including in areas where HIV AIDS is rife, prohibiting aid going in any form that might be used to help contraception. That is religion over-stepping the bounds and interfering in other people's freedom. So, religion does not observe this "live and let live" philosophy.

probably for the same reasons the Christians here do at times-An unwillingness to openly discuss the differences in our Faiths, and try to find common ground. I believe people can believe whatever they want, and even though I might ask questions about their beliefs, I am not trying to change them. I am Wiccan, and when I ask a question here, instead of honest communication about the issues I bring up, I get 20 responses about how evil I am and bad, and going to Hell. I want to get along with all here, and have a forum where we can discuss our differences, not fight about them. How is the world ever going to be at peace, when people of faith (any faith) still argue!!

The burden of proof is on you as a Theist or believer, to show your beliefs are true. When someone makes a claim, the burden of proof is on them to provide evidence to support or justify the claim, not on the person who questions the claim.

If I told you that I could move a chair just by thinking about it, you would ask me to prove it. You wouldn't spend time trying to prove that I couldn't do it, would you? So, why should the claim of the existence of God be any different?

atheist or agnostics don't push any beliefs on anyone, religious people, however, do through whatever means necessary including threat of death and torture, and actual torture and death...(bone up on your world history and current world events) you'll never have to fear such attacks from an atheist or agnostic...anyway, your feelings aren't facts...the bible like all 'holy' books (talmud, koran, dianetics, etc) are works of fiction...science, however, is based on real world, observable, replicable, fact...please don't confuse the two...have a nice day...If people used critical thinking skills, the world would be a better, healthier, safer place...
support science not superstition

I have never had an Atheist push their beliefs on me. Atheists tend to me more accepting of me then others. I don't push my beliefs on me and they respect me for it.

Truth be told the only two religions I have ever had someone push on me are Christianity and Islam.

This is your problem "I believe that religion can be explained through science". That is simply not true. At least for what i believe in. You want evidence....ok.....ask the dead to come visit you in your dreams and tell you the truth and hopefully you will remember when you wake. That is......if you have enough faith in your God that he will protect you while you sleep!
