No, it's not offensive at all! It's just like Australians being called Aussies.

I don't know why we would want to be a Kiwi because they are flightless nocturnal birds that are clumsy and stick their beaks into the ground looking for worms etc. Funnily enough the human 'Kiwi' is very likely to have never seen a bird Kiwi in the wild, probably only ever at the Zoo. But we all don't seem to mind being called one.
As the joke goes..The Male Kiwi..eats, roots and leaves.
As for Sheep Shagger, I am sure that term came from Aussie, where the men are men and the sheep are nervous.

Not at all offensive - we refer to ourselves as Kiwis! Literally no one from NZ would get offended being called a Kiwi (except maybe an Aussie who lives here, but they complain about everything).

I'm a New Zealander and I absolutely HATE being called a kiwi. I have nothing in common with the cultural stereotype that it connotes: drinking beer, playing rugby, watching rugby, doing the haka, talking about rugby and farming. I would never refer to someone by a name attached to their ethnicity - pom, saffa, aussie, canuck, yank, jap, etc - and I expect that people do not refer to me using a name that is attached to a cultural stereotype and certainly one that I do not identify with. Awful.

Personally i don't think so as i have friend's from New Zealand & they are kiwi's just as we are called aussie's & the American's are called yankies.Times have changed since it was not opropriate to call people who are of Aboriginal heritage-abos' but having a step-father & family who are Aboriginal's they are not offended. It just depends on the way it is said or meant,it can not be used in a derogitive manner for anyone, but people have there own opinions but for me & my family/friends it is o.k.

Why don't you ask the person from New Zealand? How offensive is it being called any names? ie: yankee, redneck, cracker, kiwi, Brit, etc? Its all up to the person who is being called that name.

All depends on the person you're talking to. Some Americans are insulted by Yankee, some Canadians are insulted by Canuck...and at the same time, others couldn't care less.

Kiwi is OK, but they respond best to "sheep shagger". It is a term of affection.
