I called state licensing to find out what the child/teacher ratio is in daycares. In the process I opened up a huge can of worms and the licensing facility found out that one out of the two in home daycares my two precious babies attend is being run without a license and is over capacitated. Needless to say, they shut the second facility down and now the daycare ladies are having to sell their primary daycare house because they had to let half of the families children they care for go and can't afford to pay their bills. The daycare runner called me crying tonight and told me what was going on. I feel so bad for inadvertantly ratting them out. They know I was the one that called since I admitted it to them. I feel like I ruined someones life and business. Did I do the right thing or am I just a big meanie?

Well, maybe you could have went about it in a different way but they needed to be shut down as they are putting children's lives in danger. What if there was a fire or something and they couldn't get all the children out because they didn't have enough adults and too many children. Or what if they were getting too stressed about too many kids and took it out on the kids. And no license? how do you know that they were operating at proper standards. ? Stop and think about, maybe you stopped something terrible from happening. Now, why can't she go about it the right way and fix the problem so she doesn't have to shut down?

your not a meanie. you didn't MEAN to rat them out.. you were just trying to get the right information which is DUE to you anways as a good parent..
The daycare KNEW that they needed to have a liscense and they knew the ratio wasn't right.. All in all you did a good thing.. if there weren't enough workers to children that means not all the kids were being looked out for which is not a good thing.. which easily equals out to one of them could have easily been hurt or worse because there weren't enough people to watch them all.
You did a good thing, not a bad thing. You possibly saved a life and you helped more lives by doing this, yes you feel bad now but you did a good thing.
The only person that should be feeling bad is the daycare owner for being neglectful with the children she was watching daily whether intentional or not.

Be proud of yourself.. and the burn will pass in a few weeks.. You did good. :o)

Nothing you do to insure the safety of your children is a bad thing! The state sets rules and regulations for the safety of the children. And you have to have a license. If the daycare didn't have one, there was obviously a reason.Which makes you wonder why they didn't?It is not your fault. You did what every parent should do.Check up on these people you in trust your children to.It is better this happened now, before something bad did to one of the kids.

You had every right to ask questions about anyone that is looking after your children. And in this day and age you can't be too care full with your kids.
The daycare are the ones that did the wrong thing they know the rules they know the Laws and they broke them! not you!
You shouldn't feel guilty they took the risk... they are the ones at fault!
You should feel proud because it was something minor that meant they were found out. what if it had been left and a child died??? there are rules in place for reasons and they broke them! you deserve a box of chocolates!!! :)

It is not your fault- they probably new the guidelines and they are there for the safety of the children- that is the bottom line- the safety of the children- you did the right thing- the daycare probably could have done it legally and hired what they needed and got licensed- sounds like they were very illegal.D

Apparently you were concerned about the child/teacher ratio in daycares, so you called. This was a flag that started the ball rolling.
Who knows you may have prevented something here. Good for you but now you're without a daycare for one of your little ones.

Never feel bad for being a concerned parent! Remember they had the responsiblity to follow the rules and chose not to. It's not easy to feel like you were the cause of something difficult for someone else, but please know you did not do anything wrong...they did. The ratio and licensing is crucial to the care of all the children. You did the right thing. Don't allow them to place blame on you.

When it comes to your child's well being you don't take into consideration whose feelings are going to be hurt. The daycare was obviously uncaring enough to go through proper licensing so you did the right thing. Next time though, research the daycare before you send your child.

You were looking out for your child's safety and well being..you did not know that this daycare was breaking the law. It is not your fault...it is theirs for not abiding by the rules. This is how children get hurt in overcrowded daycares!!!

Don't feel bad - sounds like this would have happened sooner or later.
I think it's great that you checked into the situation prior to sending your kids to one - just wish every parent would do this.
Do NOT feel sorry for the daycare runners - it was just a matter of time before they got caught.
