it's NOT physically addictive, but is PSYCHOLOGICALLY addictive. you just THINK you need it. i know. i've gone through the same thing. you just need to slowly cut back... AND talk to a counselor. DON'T substitute one drug for another. alcohol might make you feel better in the short term, but you really need to talk to someone. research online for 800 #s for addiction hotlines. they'll do it anonymously. there's no quick cure. it'll take a lot of courage and inner strength. good luck.

To answer the question - technically - it is not found in some scientific labs to be as addicting as nicotene.
However, that said, people have certain reactions to pot. And yes, some people, maybe yourself included, have developed a routine and dependence on it. This is very much psychological and in this case - it's all about mind over matter!
When your brain wants pot - it sends signal to the rest of your body telling you how stressed you are without it. Then when you take a hit, you feel less stressed. That's dependence. And yes, most psychological dependence will require more and more of the "substance" to feel as high as the last time.
The articles below are pretty good on the info and not too much of the BS that you will find on ultra-conservative websites.
In general - you need to be willing to change some of your habits that allow you to be dependent on pot. Be proactive and start doing the things that make you feel good about yourself... take back your life and make your own high.
Natural endorphines and adrenaline can produce healthy "highs" in life - just by exercising.
The bottom line: do things you love to do, keep active, eat right, drink water and stay positive. Mind over matter will be your motto for the days/weeks to come. Never be afraid to ask for help (from a friend, doctor, counsellor) - often, you will recieve it if you ask for it.

Let's see if I can clear up all of the misinformation I see here...
There's no such thing as 'mentally addicting', pot CANNOT become addicting, it is NOT like alcohol and cigarettes because it doesn't transform the neural axons to respond differently upon use, needing more and more is not the meaning of addictive, not every chemical that affects the central nervous system is addictive, and pot is NOT a narcotic. That out of the way, pot for you has become a target of transference and at this point you appear to have become dependent on it. This happens to the bodies response to anxiety, much the same as when people 'need' beer after work or at bars, parties, social gatherings. The cause of your anxiety needs to be discovered; after that your reliance on pot will subside.

Any chemical that effects the central nervous system has the potential to be habit forming/addictive. Many people refuse to believe that marijuana is addicting, but it often times is. If you honestly want help quitting, try looking for Narcotics Anonymous meetings in your area. You might even try locating a drug rehab program.

its not addicting, except for mentally addicting.... you dont need weed, you just cant sit there and not smoke when all ur other freinds are smoking.... u dont to do this everyday its just in ur routine and thats why its mentally addicing, getting u frustrated when u cant smoke. I bet you dont even want to smoke anymore, you just like the feeling and routine of hitting the bong or blunt.... the best way to quit is to just stop and stop being around the people who are still smoking.

Ofcourse it is. Most people who smoke it will never admit to it, but they can't stop. I had a friend who swore he wasn't addicted but he couldn't go a couple of hours without smoking some much less a day or a week.

Pot isn't addictive, the situation maximum human beings see with that's as a gateway drug. Cigarettes, despite if, are meant to be extra addictive than heroine and tougher to kick. mind-blowing they're criminal and pot isn't, isn't it?!?

that's the meaning of addiction, needing more and more. stop now, before you get into a heavier drug. distance yourself from everyone you smoke with, and get into rehab. it's just like quitting ciggarettes or alcohol. long road ahead, but you can do it if you really want to. get a friend who doesn't smoke to help you stay on track.
good luck!

your right needing more and more isnt addiction its just tolerance, addiction is just when you lose self control and need the substance to function properly. you dont need addictive properties to be addicted to something, you dont even need a substance, you can be addicted to junk food or gambling, so yes you can become addicted to marijuana, but anything you do habitually is classified as an addiction.
