Encouage comes from the Latin meaning "to put heart into" There is nothing encouraging here. It was downright discouraging for the culture not to enslave just anyone. So were the laws about treatment of slaves, worship and legal rights. The economy of that time was slave based. The OT threatened the roots of that w/in Israel and challenged those situations such as you quote from outside.

the quote in question came in a time that everybody had slaves. It was considered legal and moral in its time. However Slavery is now condemned by christians based on the premise that all men are created equal and have equal rights. Nevertheless, unlike other cultures the Judeo=christians were the only cultures to assign to their slaves rights to life and person. No other culture did that. The bible does not " encourage " slavery but rather seeks to ameliate the abuses that went with it.

Foreign slaves could be bought , sold and inherited like other property. This does not mean that God approves the slavery. The Bible does not encourage slavery.

That's one of the things that makes me think that they Bible isn't the word of God, at least in whole. I doubt that if God existed he would encourage this. This is a passage leads me to infer that it was produced by a man who wished to encourage slavery for his personal reasons. I doubt a "loving God" or Jesus would stand for such rubbish.
This doesn't mean the whole Bible is fabricated, just that certain parts seem blatantly biased in favor of the writers.

Lucky for you your freedom is protected by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations.
I subscribe to the Tibetan Buddhist notion that: if a practice is evil, do not practice it even if it is the custom of your own tribe. If a practice is good, then adopt it even if it is the custom of your enemies.
