After one eats asparagus, their urine has a very distinct odor almost immediately after consumption that anyone can pretty much tell if one has had asparagus in a recent meal. I had some asparagus in a salad the other day and twenty minutes later I had to urinate and noticed the odor.

It seems that there's some question about the source of the odor, whether it's a reaction to the S-methyl thioacrylate, methanethiol, or sulfur compounds in the asparagus. Interesting is that while everybody has this reaction to asparagus, not everybody has the genetic makeup to be able to smell it
