For the guys its obvious: They just love to be all natural, love the beard esp. when its cold outside.
But I just dont know why so many "environmental" females have beards.

According to some psychologists men wear beards to hide their faces.
A beard tends to make a man look older.
Many men think a beard makes them look distinguished or wise.
Many men are bearded because they are too lazy to shave.
Many men grow beards because it is required by their religion.
Many men wear beards to defy a society that frowns on men who are not clean shaven.
Some grow beards to hide real or perceived facial deformities, or scars.
Some do not care for the razor burn that can accompany regular shaving.

Honestly - I think it's because they take a lot of outdoor vacations - like camping car trips, backpacking, river rafting... and during the trips there aren't good facilities for shaving, and what's the point because you're dirty and in the middle of nowhere anyway!
Then maybe they get used to it, and kinda like it... and since all their enivonmental friends are doing it too, it becomes a big cultural phenomenon - LOL!

It keeps their face warm without the use of fossil fuels.. hahahaahahaaa! Just Kidding! no clue!.. maybe because they spend a lot of time in the outdoors where there is no easy place to shave and dispose of the waste from it without messing up the environment.

Funny... I'm a happy tree cutting, Elk and deer and bear and cougar killing, Wolf hate, YES, I used the strong word HATE!!!... Where was I? Oh ya... I HATE wolves... I'm not much a hippy, but more a mountain man... and I'm bearded.
I thing if someone mistook me for some envirmental freak i'd have a hard tome letting my anger go.

Sorry it took me so long to reply to your premise --but I was laughing so hard that I fell off my chair -had to go to emergency and they had to cut off my beard in order to treat my cut on my face.

Not to sound harsh, but most environmentalists are dirty, sketchy hippies and don't even believe in bathing (water conservation) little alone shaving.

As with all of their body hair, they grow them to length and then harvest them for use in making their own clothes, ropes, insulation for buildings, etc.

they spend all their time outdoors - wind, sun, cold - a man needs a beard for protection.
