Passport with US Embassy. How to travel?

I am a malaysian staying in Singapore. I sent my passport to the US Embassy for application of Visa recently. However, i need to travel back from Singapore to Malaysia. Any idea how i can do so without my passport?

Call at the Embassy and see if you can get a Travel Document, which is meant to replace the passport on a temporary basis. If available, it will be valid for one trip only.
