I recent found CDs containing files I backed up from an older computer. The files, file names and CD are intact however when I open up word files the prompt to convert the file appears and when I choose a format it appears in symbols instead of readable words. The CD is also in CDFS filesystem format. Is there a way to read these files ?

you might not be opening them with the same application you made them with.

Files have to be opened with the programs that created them. A newer version usually can open an older file, but an older version cannot open a file created in a newer version.

Right-click on the file
cl Properties
See if it tells you anything helpful

Short for CD-ROM File System, the Windows 95 driver for CD-ROM players. CDFS replaces MSCDEX, which was used for DOS and Windows 3.x systems. Unlike MSCDEX, which is a 16-bit program that runs only in real mode, CDFS is a 32-bit program that runs in protected mode. In addition, it uses the VCACHE driver to control the CD-ROM disk cache, which results in much smoother playback.

In the search box, type "what is CDFS file" for much more information.

become those record written in 'MS note' and what version, information written in note 2009 received't open in older variations of note except saved with the .record extension have you ever transferred those information to a memory stick and attempt to open them from there if so as that they likely been corrupted and im afraid there is not any longer mush you would possibly want to do about that, if some will open and others wont its probable they are corrupted. does this happen to all you 'note' docs. in certain circumstances note makes a backup reproduction of information seem contained in the folder you've saved those information to and seem for a record declaring 'backup of'.
