the pumps in the tank are the same, the sending units the are connected to are different tho. the pump on the frame is differnet then the tank pumps. if the tank pumps go bad it will run just won't have enough power, I know I had a drivablity problem only when the weather was hot. I found that both of my tank pumps went bad at the same time.

Tank pumps are exactly the same! Then theres the frame pump. Someone had already said this, but it wasn't as clear. The Frame pump doesn't go out very often. The in-tank pumps usually last about 100K ( average ). But not always.

Its located in front of the passenger door behind the plastic molding. If you need a new on the part # is F5AZ-9341-A thats the oem # from ford. All so try and see if there is fuel in the fuel rail. Crank the motor and have a friend push on the valve. It looks like a valve stem.
