Vitamins A and D can both build up in your system because they are fat soluble [stored in the colon] yet both are necessary. Within recommended dosages is best. It's when people think if one is good three must be better that they get into trouble. B Complex is a good choice, especially if under stress or physically active. E is excellent, too. Even if fat soluble it's not the problem A and D can be when taken in high doses, long term. Zinc is good for dry skin, stretch marks, all sorts of skin issues and if you can take half in morning and half in evening it's better [tabs can be cut] to balance effects.

Magnesium and selenium? Depends on milligrams and if you're also taking calcium. Some vitamins and minerals must have a complement to work [eg., calcium needs Vit. D]. This has to do with osmosis. An imbalance in the bloodstream forces things in or out of the blood to ensure that balance exists [homeostasis]. Tums [generic is OK] is a reliable, low-cost source of calcium.

Omega 3 is an excellent choice, for life. Many factors are at play in knowing which [of any supplement] and how much is wisest. Consider age, body mass, dietary intake, level of activity, how well your body assimilates and utilizes each. There's no clear-cut answer and no one-size-fits-all rule to follow. Ranges to go by exist and excellent information is out there [including online].

Rodale Press is a first-rate source for Natural Health [books] on various topics [do an online search]. Also, WebMD has a wealth of online information on all sorts of topics - very current info on it, including recent research. Professionals trust WebMD for latest, best info [free newsletter emails]. Plus, there are worthy health magazines to be found in libraries, lobbies or on racks to buy.

Juices [100% varieties] are especially good since they help clear the skin. Apple juice or cider is especially good. Avoid soft drinks [they're loaded in what you don't want in your system]. Water or tea, especially green tea, have antioxidants most people need. Avoid most margarines, too. They're one molecule away from plastic once they're in the system. Stevia is a plant - it's a natural sweetener, has no additives [unlike others] - if you're avoiding all refined sugars. May cost a bit more than other packets yet worth it [once you've read the latest info on some artificial sweetners].

If you're using Vit. C in pill form you may want to crush it to get best benefits [pills don't always dissolve]. One reliable product is EmerGenC. Powder-form in packets to carry with you. Pour into 8oz. water for a quick, refreshing vitamin/mineral fix [especially in flu/cold season]. Vit. C can be taken in fairly high doses unless you're sensitive to it - what isn't used by the body flushes out. It's been said we can take Vit. C as needed [if it causes diarrhea cut back]. When incubating [or exposed to] viruses/germs a strong dose of Vit. C every 4-6 hrs or so, first few days, is easy self-defense. Packets of EmerGenC are a convenient source. The VitaCost website has low prices, a wide choice range and lists of what's in each variety for easy comparison.

YES!! Talk to a pharmacist - you can get too many of the fat-soluable vitamins - B's and Vit. E It isn't easy to overdose, but your body will store these and eventually your liver will become very unhappy with you and you'll likely get feeling pretty nasty, plus you'll break out worse as your body responds to being under stress. I'm not totally sure about the rest. As for the others, see if you can talk to someone in a natural health food store - Omega 3's are fats from usually fish sources and they and primrose oil, etc. make some people's acne worse!

Vitamins are good - but everything in moderation!!

It's possible to overdose on practically anything, even water as someone else already pointed out. You should be fine with the recommeded dosages as long as you aren't taking any other products that contain the same vitamins....to be on the safe side, you can always ask your doctor (that's what I would do if I was concerned about it).

If you take vitamins your body will take what it needs and the rest goes out by urine, sweat etc... you follow the dosage. Hypervitaminosis is possible though.

you can overdose on any of them, but the side effects are not serious. Beta carotene overdose just turns your skin bright orange, so it's really quite funny

You can pretty much O.D. on anything. Did you hear about the woman who died after winning a competition to see who could drink the most water....put on by a radio station? Just be careful...moderation.
