They are taking out all those rude experiences on you. This really isn't the job for everyone.

Ok, Ive had experience here. If a cashier was rude, I used to say to myself "well they probably deal with every backward jerk on the planet so its understandable their in a bad mood"..Then I got a job as a cashier at a restaurant. And I learned there is absolutely NO excuse for rude behavior. I learned that basically customers are almost always courteous and the host never has an excuse for acting anyway but hospitable and friendly. Seriously, you should make a comment to their manager if someone under them is acting rude, don't be shy, its not fair to you to be treated that way and it would not be fair to the manager to allow them to be oblivious to the fact that one of their employees is acting this way.

try dealing with the American public and you too will turn into a mean hardened jerk. Americans seem to love to act lilke total unreasonable a holes when they talk to a company representative. I have been on both sides and usually if you try being polite and nice you will be responded to that way - but most representatives will now just think you are being nice to get something from them. This country is culturally so rude and mean lately .. just look at the way people drive. We have to figure out a way to get better or we will all be shooting at each other soon enough.

Many people in those job categories are making the state's minimum wage salary and as a result they are just unhappy people. I don't think it's personal, most of them are just miserable and tired.
There are times where people who work at the DMV can be just as unfriendly, but they make a decent salary. Most of them are just tired as well and they come across the same situation several times which can raise anyone's irritation level if you think about it.

Working with the public can be a chore, I have worked with the public and they can be downright nasty and rude. Usually the cashiers and customer reps are young and inexperienced. I think they try to do as best they can. Often they are entry level positions. I try to be nice to them and understand, I have my warwounds from being in their position.

Sometimes, its people doing a job they're not happy with.
But in other cases, some of them are having a bad day. Could you be cheerful if your feet hurt, and you were worried about whether your paycheck is going to cover all those bills?
Could you be chipper if your BF walked out on you last night, or the bank just told you that your balloon house mortgage is going up?

because they have their own issues and are inappropriately and unprofessionally taking it out on the customers...I usually let it go but sometimes, if it is continual or really bad, you should ask for a manager or supervisor...always get their name, if on the phone, ask their name...I have been on done similar jobs and know some customers/clients can be difficult but I am always polite to them and am shocked at how unpleasant and unfriendly some, not all of them can be (and they are paid to do their job and rewarded for acting poorly, what ever happened to the customer is always right? poor training, poor supervision, places like that who don't care will lose my business...ugh, don't get me started, I hear you...)

I know what you mean! That is one reason I go to smaller shops when I can. The people are usually nicer.
Some people are simply tired of dealing with the public, still others are not friendly all the way round. In any case, if managing in a shop or owning one, I would attempt to help those people overcome their personality factors that are not complimentary to the overall operation.

I can't even believe how badly customer service people act. People who do not like dealing with the public should be working behind the scenes--not with the customers. Some are down-right rude. These are offenses for which they could, and should, be fired--how they are getting away with it, I do not know.

I think the reason is that most of them hate the work, but are unable to find work in manufacturing, so they do customer service for a paycheck and nothing more.
