My daughter is significantly delayed, and she has just recently started pointing to things up close, but hasn't started focusing at a distance yet, so she hasn't started pointing at things like those giant sumo wrestlers and dinosaurs on the roofs of car dealerships yet! Her Occupational therapist says she should have begun this at about 12-18 months of age She is now 2 years and three months old. If you are worried your toddler is delayed there is something called E.C.I. Early childhood Intervention in my state, and i am sure there is something similar in your state. just google it with your state and see. They are working in relation with my city's Mental health and Mental retardation agency, and they will come out to your house and do a free initial evaluation to let you know where your child is developmentally and help determine whether or not they need assistance. They provide services like physical and occupational therapy to help, and you get a case worker who is just here to make sure you are getting the most out of the program. They accept most major insurances and medicaid as payment, and can work on a sliding scale based on income if you are not insured! However your first step might be to contact your child's' pediatrician and ask them about it! Good Luck, and don't worry!!!
