Cook the thawed out chicken in water for about 25 minutes. Put aside. Take three cans of chicken broth and bring to light boil. Add some chopped celery and chopped carrots to the broth, and a small bag of egg noodles. Cook about 10 minutes until noodles are done. De-bone and cut or tear the cooked chicken into chunks and add to the pot. Season with salt and pepper to taste. And you will have some of the best chicken and noodle soup you have ever had. To make it extra special and/or to serve to guest... get yourself a box of Jiffy Mix and make some corn bread muffins to go with your soup. I bet you'll be happy.

Work with your dorm mates and maybe you can all come up with some ideas for a communal meal. Perhaps a soup made with your chicken, someone else may have some tomatoes, another some pasta...
I just did a search by entering dorm cooking and found this site
http://www.getouttoday.com/collegelife/living/cooking/dormcook.htm it looks promising.

Wow...You do need energy and cheap food right...you came to the right Mama...lol.....Go to the store and in the frozen section select some frozen vegetables like:
"mixed veggies" for soup....
chopped Spinach for making some Italian dishes......
and frozen green beans and
broccoli. Bag of frozen mixed bell peppers (red, yellow, green) with onion if you can find it or by fresh at the produce dept.
Canned veggie isle:
Tomato puree large can 28 ounces
tomato paste tiny can 6 oz approx.
stewed tomatoes 15 oz.
creamed soups:
chicken
celery
mushroom
cans of beans:
pinto for Chile
kidney beans or red beans for rice dishes
then go to the grain, rice and pasta isle for a selection of quick cooking items. Read the labels. most cook in 5 to 12 minutes...so get the ones that take less time.
Brown rice,
couscous,
cornmeal,
all purpose flour that is unbleached,
Angel hair pasta and
elbow macaroni....
.also get a bottle of good virgin olive oil.
Now get some canned fruit like
Peaches, pears and fruit cocktail.,chunk pineapple
and mandarin oranges
Dairy section:....
sour creme ,
creamed cheese,
Parmesan cheese,
low fat healthy margarine, (smart balance) brand....
cheeses any kind you like depending on what you are making
cheddar for casseroles with beef and some chicken dishes
Monterrey jack for Mexican some have peppers in it if you like spicy food. Italian cheese for melting mozzarella .
meats and meatless meals:

So far there probably is enough for you for a week or more if you prepare these dishes and then freeze a portion for later...that is the secret to prepare when you are free enough food for a few days so you can eat right and keep up with your studies.
There are more things I'd like to share with you but can't here please write to me at: italmama6060@yahoo.com for more help. I'm more than happy to be here to give you as much help as possible. I enjoy sharing and knowing someone is being helped.

Spagehtti is always easy, you can cook the chicken, boil some noodles, and get a ready made sauce tomato or alfredo or whatever you like. Put everything together and yum. I'd find a pesto for the sauce and toss it into the noodles and chicken.

I suggest you get yourself a crock pot (slow cooker) and look up recipes online. There are tons and tons of cheap and easy things you can make with chicken, ground beef, pork chops, etc... You can also make cakes and other desserts. The best thing is, you throw everything in, and leave it cook for awhile, and it all turns out tasty.
You can purchase a crock pot for about $20 and up:

The crock pot is a godsend for people who don't know much about cooking or just don't like to.

the cheapest filling food that I know of is Ramen Noodles, I've seen it as low as 10 cents per package, but mac & cheese, frozen burritos, and cereal (the off brand kind that comes in a big bag) are all easy, fast, and cheap... just go to the local grocer and walk up and down the aisles, bound to find something...

Chicken, yummy. :)
You could make chicken wings or cook a chicken breast and eat it with mashed potatoes or green beans.
And ooh, you could make a tasty casarole with it.
Just go to google and search for chicken recipies. :)
As to other food, I would set aside how much you want to spend on food weekly. And follow that budget. Hope that helps. :)
