Baking soda can help remove stains from teeth, but it can't whiten them any whiter than they are naturally. (other than the stains of course)

How to Whiten Teeth With Baking Soda Everybody brushes their teeth with normal toothpaste, right? Well, with this at-home product, you can brush your teeth and make them whiter in fourteen days! Steps 1. Wet your toothbrush with cold water and dip it into baking soda. All of the bristles should be covered so that your toothbrush is white. 2. Brush your teeth for five minutes (spitting if necessary) two times a day. 3. Spit the baking soda toothpaste out and rinse your mouth clean with water. If there is a tingling or burning feeling in your mouth, this is perfectly normal. See "Warnings" for what might not be normal. And please always brush your teeth... Tips * After brushing your teeth, brush your tongue with your favorite toothpaste and/or use a tongue scraper. Bad breath is related to teeth only when they house food debris and plaque. The main cause of bad breath is bacteria growing on the tongue. * An alternative method involves putting baking soda on the toothbrush and wetting it with a little bit of hydrogen peroxide (the cheap stuff one pours on cuts). It really does work! Warnings * Do not use this method too often as the abrasive can permanently damage the enamel of your teeth. There are some special toothpaste brands (often for smokers) which contain much gentler abrasives than baking soda. They can be used daily without any risk for the health of your teeth and help to remove not only tobacco stains but also stains from coffee, tea, and wine. * Baking soda can dissolve orthodontic glue. Do not use this method if you have braces or a permanent retainer. * Best used only 2 or 3 times a month.

Baking soda is excellent for cleaning all kinds of stains off your teeth, but if they still look dark it's because of over fluoridation or their natural colour. You might as well use the white strips now if you want to lighten them, and then use the baking soda occasionally instead of regular toothpaste to keep them white- but you will need a good regular oral hygiene routine, because artificially whitened teeth are weaker than natural dark ones. Also, I recommend stopping a few steps short of total whiteness, which will look too fake in real life. I don't know if the MA on the date is supposed to mean March or May, but it must be one of those two.

Chemically speaking, baking soda is a weak base that is amphoteric, which essentially means it can react with both acids and bases [source: American Chemical Society]. This quality makes it perfect for neutralizing acids produced by bacteria in plaque, which could potentially destroy tooth enamel if left unchecked.
The chemical structure of baking soda also makes it a mild abrasive, and that's why it's so effective for removing surface stains from your teeth. Of course, other polishing agents that are sometimes used in oral care products, such as hydrated silica or dicalcium phosphate, can also help scrub away teeth stains. But baking soda crystals are unique in that they dissolve easily in water, which allows the baking soda to penetrate more deeply into the grooves of your teeth and hard-to-reach places in your mouth than some other abrasives can.
Additionally, baking soda crystals are softer than enamel and dentine (a tooth's outer layers) and therefore can mechanically scrub off stains without scratching those parts of your smile. This has the effect of making your teeth look brighter [source: Domke]. But does it actually make them whiter? Read on to the next page to find out.

Baking soda doesn't whiten your teeth, it only removes foul odor. Why don't you try a teeth whitener by crest. That works wonders on your teeth.

Stay away from the professional teeth whitening procedures and from the whitening at home kits. They are using extremely toxic chemicals that can cause IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO TOOTH ENAMEL and premature tooth decay.

Check out this site: http://www.naturalwhiteteeth.net - It's about how you can whiten your teeth 100% naturally. Same results but 100% safe and 1000 times cheaper.

if you have fillings, the baking soda won't be able to take the stains out of those. but also try just brushing with baking soda and in a circular form.
