Only faith in atheism makes you ignorant. I do not use religion as a tool of denial. I have no time to debate God's existence with the unbelievers. If they do not wish for God's love, or for Jesus to be the Lord of their life, I do not have time for them at all. It is not a Christian's job to convert people. That is God's area. We share the good news of Christ's love with others. They make up their own mind. That is their right, just as it is my right to do the same.

Faith doesn't make you ignorant. Everyone has faith. Even evolutionists have to have faith to believe what they do - after all it's just a theory - they weren't there billions of years ago and have no proof. People who say they aren't religious have faith that their worldview is correct whatever that worldview is. A person who has faith could appear ignorant in taking risks in areas of their lives where it would seem a rational person would not because they are trusting God and obeying and that can look irrational at times. It's not always denial - sometimes it's just that the person you're talking to probably needs to grow in maturity - faith isn't the cause of denial.

Faith does not make one ignorant. Ignorance is defined as the lack of knowledge or education... much different than "stupid" which is lacking intelligence. If one is ignorant, one can be educated to know better. I believe ignorance is required in order to have deep abiding faith in something that can be neither seen nor verified in any manner. Ignorance leads very well to blind acceptance in whatever one is told.
It has been proven that the more one is educated, the more likely one is to be atheist or a non-believer. The educated seek out science and empirical proof of the existence of anything, including god. And it is rarely if ever found.
AND likewise, just because someone is an "intellectual" doesn't mean their belief is proof of the existence of god. I'm pretty intelligent and I say there's a dancing leprecaun on my desk in front of me. Because I'm an intellectual, it must be true. :-)

Hmm? Are we back to the "are there any Christian intellectuals" question? Boring. Go ask Thomas Aquinas, Isaac Newton, Einstein, Copenicus, Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, Richard Foster, Philip Yancey, Martin Luther King, C.S. Lewis, et al. If you want to see a tool of denial, go ask people who haven't used their brainpower and heartpower to find out why 2.1 Billion people, worldwide, still worship
Jesus.

I don't think religion makes us ignorant. There are some very HIGHLY intelligent people who are people of faith. However, it seems that many "religious" people in the U.S. prefer ignorance - which I think is by product of fear. They fear what they don't know and/or understand, so ignorance is better rather than being intellectually challenged. Christ said to love-that love should be our greatest aim; yet St. Paul said that if we fear we cannot love.

You paint a broad brush with just using the word "faith". If you mean Christians then use that word. There are plenty of faiths out there that view all kinds of topics completely differently.

You know, you can go up to any person on the street and get a response to what they think faith is and they'll give you something like this.
"faith is the assurance of that which is not real".....so then STRONG faith is the assurance of that which YOUR SURE is not real?

My faith does not make me ignorant. I am willing to learn. The truth is truth and that cannot be changed by the friendship association. You are right though, Jesus is our friend. He is your friend too if you just let Him to be your friend.
Wherever God has made the truth clear, Satan's strategy is to cast doubt to it. Wherever God has spoken with authority, the devil desires to undermine it.

I don't think faith makes someone ignorant as such but faith based systems encourage ignorance and discourage critical thought. Its an evolutionary adaptation.
Superstitions which encouraged their believers to think rationally would self destruct.

When your mother told you not to touch the oven door when something was in the oven baking, did you believe in faith that your mother was telling you the truth or did you go ahead and touch it, and got burned? We are not ignorant, we just have faith that our Father's words are true.
