I've had very dark colored smelly urine for a long while now. I drink plenty of water at least 12 glasses a day. Shouldn't that dilute the urine? My urine is so concentrated. I'm guessing it's probably a uti or possibly a kidney infection; but I don't have the usual symptoms. Such as pain and burning, frequancy or anything like that. Mines just like a very dark amber color. I was just wondering if anyone else has this? Oh btw i"m seeing the doctor on monday. Thanks for all your answers in advance.

Meds can make your urine dark and smelly, gallbladder infection can do the same thing. I would especially bring this up to the doctor, with all the water you are drinking you should not have this problem. I have very dark and smelly urine at times, but I do take 5 meds and am inconsistent in my water, I also have large gallbladder stones ( catscan ) and the doctor is watching me for taking it out in the future if it gets worse ( painful ). I notice that when I consistently drink a lot of water my urine is golden most of the time. I guess it is time for me to get it togather with my water intake. Good Luck on your doctor visit.

There is a problem, obviously. Instead of only drinking water, drink cranberry juice! Well, yea drink water too, but cranberry juice has all these fancy vitamins and minerals that are good for your immune sytem and clean out your system of illness n all that stuff. I'm one who is usually prone to illness and since I started drinking cranberry juice, I've been so much healthier. So yea.. try it! Hope everything works out.

Actually, what you didn't tell us is what ELSE you are drinking or eating. Some foods can cause urine to smell funny, including: Coffee, Teriyaki Sauce, Soy Products, Wheat, etc.

There's probably nothing wrong at all. I'd bet you've started eating or drinking something new in the past week or so.

Ok... I'm not sure what your asking if you already have an appt. with your pcp. If this is as you described, it is most likely a bad thing, however a urinalysis (you'll pee in a cup) will show very quickly if even the slightest thing is wrong. You mention you drink a lot... this is possibly diabetes, but don't get worked up. Sometimes these things just happen.

I hope you are not taking any statins, it could be rhabdomyolosis if you are on statins.
