If you watch the news even a little, you will hear people say, "We are not winning this war." Not just citizens, but anchores, and military generals ask these questions. I ask, "What war?" In 2003 when we invaded Iraq, our goal was to oust the Saddam regiem. It turned out to be a very easy win. Saddam didn't have much military might and he lost all controll (and the war) within a matter of months. In April 2003, Saddam and his regiem officially lost the war at the U.S invasion of Baghdad. There is no more official enemy. Saddam's regiem is nonexistant. We are not in a war in Iraq. We are simply policing the streets against gangs (the insurgents) who are citizens by day and violent at night. Ever been to Newark New Jersey? In conclusion, the war is one and we should not be afraid of failure, because we have already achieved victory. What the Iraqies want to do with their new found independence from Saddam is up to them.

Oh, you silly right-wingers.
PS:I'm sure if you recently had a friend or family member - or LOST a friend or family member - in this 'won war' you'd be furious if you saw someone call this war over.

You are right on some of the issues. If you'll consider the original goals for invading Iraq, they'd already been achieved. No WMD's, bio-chemical weapons, and Saddam ousted from power. In that sense, the mission is already accomplished. The American troops should have already pulled-out, and let the Iraqi's dictate their own future with their new-found independence.
But I disagree with what you're saying as policing the streets against gangs (insurgents). To the very sense of the word, it is not policing. It is still a war. It's not correct to call it policing the streets when you're bombing and strafing, firing missiles with fighter planes, helicopter gunships, tanks, etc.. It is still a war. To be precise, things turned into a guerilla war, same as that fought over Vietnam.

Interesting hyphotesis, but in my opinion the US should win these war responsably, what do I mean with that.
The US invaded Iraq with the stated purpose of removing Saddam from power, removing the weapons of mass destruction that he was supposed to have and RESTORING A VIABLE DEMOCRACY in Iraq. If you asked me they have achieved 1 and 1/2 of the objectives. Saddam was ousted (Yes), weapons of Mass Destrucion (??? let´s not get into that one), and a VIABLE DEMOCRARY IN IRAQ (I would give it a C on that subject), there is still work to be done.
Having said that, the US can not stay in Iraq playing the cop in the street forever, but they do have to make sure to stabilize the situation enough as to give the new Iraqi military enough room to stand on their feet (some may argue that they have had plenty of time to do this...) that can be true, but do remember that there are three major groups in Iraq (Kurds, Sunnis and Shias) and that sures makes things a lot more difficult.
I think that if the US makes a last effort to see this thorough the victory can be achieved, their worldwide credibility will be maintained and there would be a new found respect for Bush, since he created a mess but he was man enough to clean it.
The problem with that is that the cleaning was done with the blood of so many American Service men and women and Iraqi men, women and children.
Lets wait for the history books and see what they say in the end.

You hit the nail on the button, especially with your concluding sentence.
They - or I should say the Republicans - call it a war, because 'occupation' doesn't have as nice a ring to it. Actually, by what we did in Iraq we have actually increased our losses at winning the war over the varying terrorist cells throughout the world.
The reason why we are 'losing' in Iraq is because the money that the Bush Regime thought we would be getting from Iraq's oil has not come forward as quickly as they would have liked. You have to realize that this is a rich man's war and they are fighting to increase their wallet size. The longer that it takes for the oil to come into their hands, the longer they see themselves on the losing side. Bastards.
Hope this helps.

This war won't be over for decades, because we're not simply fighting it in Iraq. This is a global war against those who wish to do harm to the United States and her allies. We won't be done with this war until the group that has commited horrible acts of terror (and is still actively in the process of committing acts of terror) has been irradicated. They are not just in Iraq! We won't win this war by securing Bagdad. We need to get extremely tough with nations that harbor terrorists. We need to let them know that we mean business. If they wish to support them, they will become the next Iraq. They wish to harm us, to murder us. They've already attacked us and they plan to do it again. This war won't be over until those terrorist organizations are gone. And by the way this war is going, that won't be for quite some time.

Unfortunately, the "war on terror" will never end. There will always be terrorists. We can get them out of Iraq but then there's Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc. We need to fix up the border security so they won't come here, that's about all we can do now.
