i know that the bigger the ratio the better the picture but is this much of a difference...would your eye see any difference?

Be careful here. Make sure the 1,600:1 is NOT dynamic contrast.
In that case, the real contrast is about 400:-800:1!!


Go to the store and try to see them side by side. Don't buy TVs just based on specs.

Not a difference. Your eyes only detect slight difference say between 600:1 and 6000:1

maybe slight under certain conditions with the higher contrast the blacks will look more black as opposed to dark grey on some tv's. this should break it down for you.
