I take Hydrocodone for back pain. I JUST got my CDL and don't want to lose it. I have researched the heck out of this and have found conflicting answers from the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Association.(FMCSA)
I have a legal prescription, and it doesn't affect me in a bad way. It does help my pain but I am not dizzy or lightheaded at all.
Also, how long does this stay in your system?
Thanks

also having a class A myself...you have to be careful taking this product...it may not affect you, but if you get into an accident with any trace of it in your blood, it could be used against you even if you have no trouble with it at all (such as side effects)
the 1/2 life can vary depending on the dosage and how ferequently you take it...it could last in your system 48-72 hours

It does not matter how it affects you personally. It only matters how it affects the ordinary, average male of your age and weight. (That's the legal standard.) You MUST check your state's laws and you can do so by calling your local DMV office - the place you got your CDL. The vast majority of states will NOT allow you to drive while you are taking Hydrocodone. Infact, I don't know of a single state that allows it. If this is a problem with your employer, under the FMLA he can NOT stop you from taking the time off. It is a requirement of your job that you not be on such meds, a requirement of the state's licensing agency, AND you were legally prescribed the medicine. All you need to do is to tell the doctor exactly what the problem is and he/she will write you a letter to take to your employer explaining that you are incapacitated from doing your job while on the medication.

even though you have a legal prescription, you might want to contact someone who knows the laws..maybe just talk to someone who is a legal rep for a truckers union or an employment lawyer.. It might be illegal simply due to the documented medical nature of the medication.. I too, am on precription painkillers, long term..and in the State of Ohio it is illegal to drive professionally or for any company due to the risks of liability if there were to ever be an accident..

Good luck, I know what your going through..

its the ones who abuse the medicines and use them to get high and dont legitimatly need them that make it hard on the rest of us who really need the medication...

I think as long as you have a legitament prescription and can prove that it doesnt interfer with your driving abilities you are okay.
However if you decide to stop taking them wein yourself off or you will have about of week to 10 days of withdrawl especially if you have taken it for a while
