lol.
When babies are born, their vision is so poor that they can only focus on objects 8-15 inches from their face. The way they experience their world is through touch, taste, smell, and sound. as Vision begins to overcome their other senses, (her vision won't be completely developed untill she is 24 to 30 months old) they try to make sense of it by relating it to their other senses. The strongest sense? Taste. Its kind of like learning a foreign language. You hear the foreign word, then hear it in your own tounge. Her first language is taste, and she needs to "hear" the information in that language before she can process it in the new "language."
Some kids will continue doing this into their 3rd year! Dont be harsh with her, but you're right-- it is gross. or unsanitary anyway. Tell her "no" and get her interested in something else. even if she doesnt understand now, she'll begin to, and hopefully will stop before too long!

Oh heck, your concerned about that? I am raising a 2 1/2 year old granddaughter who was born 2 months early (so she may have some issues), anyway, I caughter her licking the back of her aunt's car today. You want to talk about gross? I'm not kidding you either. I would be proud if she was just licking the windows, mirrors and walls.

Totally normal phase, can last a few weeks, months or even years.

One kid that I knew not only licked the windows, she licked aquariums, the floor, the TRASHCAN (we moved it to the other side of a baby gate after that), door knobs... guess she really built up her immune system after that. (You can only stop it so much... kids are fast!)

It is absolutely normal and a part of exploring the environment. Sometimes leads right into the biting stage, so stay on your toes! Good luck!

You know it's funny that I remember wanting to do the same thing when I was a kid and completely forgot about it. For some reason, there is a natural urge to put your tongue on a cold window as a child but not excessively. Ask you pediatrician or get Dr. Spocks book on child rearing. I'm no expert by any means.

My youngest does this, her physical therapist says it is the coolness. I just thought is was because my daughter is developmentally delayed, and sensory seeking, but apparently a great many children do this sort of thing, they are just exploring their environment with all the things at their disposal! Think about it, Most of the new things your child experiences right now are done through their mouths (Solid food, soda? lemons , ice, fruit) They are learning by example from you, you encourage them to explore with their mouths, and they just continue on with their training in new and unusual ways!

Definately normal. My 2 1/2 yr. old still does it occasionally. Children want to taste, touch, and smell everything just to experience it so they often do things that are really gross...

HAHA, thats kinda cute. It's not entirely strange. Remember that saying "kids will be kids?" I use to eat dirt when I was lil and I swaollowed a penny cuz I thought it was candy and my parents rushed me to the Hospital and the docotrs said I would poop it out...

Yes, I have seen this with my own children and others as well. One of the ways that a baby explores his/her surroundings is to use the mouth. They will taste anything they can get their hands on. It is completely normal.

I'm glad to see my son (2 years) isn't the only one! Just clean the window with vinegar NOT Windex.

its normal for some kids to do stuff like that. Kids try to explore the world with all there senses. Just get on to her and try to teach her that its non-hygenical
