I just took my meds and need to wait for them to kick in before I go to bed or I'll just lie there, what do you do to get to sleep or get yourself ready for sleep?

Total darkness allong with mental picturing of your thoughts will lull you awaay. A simple, steady background noise helps.(whitenoise).Pull visuals into the space between your eybrows when fully content.Let it happen.

If I lay in bed and "try" to go to sleep it seems like I can lay there for hours b/c I start getting stressed as to WHY i'm not sleeping. So what i do is kinda corny but it works like a charm. My mind races at night with all the stress and all of the day so I focus my mind on something neutral and boring. For example, I will try to name, silently in my mind, every fruit I can think of for each alphabet letter. I'll name all the ones that begin with A and so on until i drift off!

Take your meds (if you aren't already taking sleeping pills then talk to your doctor about sleeping pills), take a nice hot shower, then get in bed and read until you fall asleep.
Again, sleeping pills work wonders as long as you don't abuse them.

i take a hot bath with plenty of skin softening lavander oil, soak in it to ease the aches, pains and stress of the day while burning a sage candle for spiritual cleansing aroma. then i take care of my face and teeth so that i am clean and well pampered and the hot water has helped my body relax, the aromas have soothed my mind and spirit and i've given my meds time to kick in--then i crawl into bed and gently close my eyes while taking deep, cleansing breaths while meditating on something ambiguous and positive to relieve the racing thoughts. be nice to your body, listen to serene music, pray, meditate...anything that focuses you on peace, joy and contentment. Good luck and many blessings!

This may seem odd , but I use a mantra . I keep repeating a number in my mind as I wait for sleep.I lay in bed and stay motionless and with the # mantra it works most of the time.

turn off the computer, the lights, lay down, and close your eyes.
I usually read before I go to sleep.
