Religion, economics, land.
There's really no telling if life would be better. We've never had life without war . . . which tells me it's a rather natural occurrence. Sad, but natural.

We have war for two reason's;
(1) Women
(2) God
I know that this is not what we want to admit. Look at the history of war, and you will see that the core of the reason for each and every war. Each was started, because of one of the two reasons above. However men are not as ruthless as you might think there have been a matriarchal societies that were extremely ruthless. In some cases the enemy was completely slaughtered. The armies as well as the civilians. So the feminists that say that the world would be better with women running the world. I say no. A wise person once said, "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

There are different reasons for war. What happened on September 11, 2001 resulted from envy. America is a God-fearing nation and has been blessed. Mr. Bin Laden and his buddies were just jealous of the greatest country on the face of the earth. Many times war is necessary.

War is based on greed and apparently most people are greedy. They're also over-populating and straining the world's resources. I don't see anything good coming of it. Unfortunately, I think it will end in eventual nuclear war and the oceans and air will be unfit for human life. Sad, indeed.

Good question, yet hard to answer. To understand it better, let's simplify it.
Why do people within a household fight? Why do family members fight, squabble, and kill each other over such minor things?
Before you can answer the big questions, you first need to find the answers/solutions to the smaller ones. And I'm sorry, but with everything that I might know, the answers to these are beyond my intelligence. All I can say is to do what you can, when you can, for who you can.
Hope this helps.

Either because they are evil, or listen to evil friends.
If any of you had been to the fabulous War Potesters' March in DC today, and has heard that pro-war and Pro-Israel Zionist weirdo, Clifford D. May speak, you'd wish you could put him in a hot air balloon and hope he can drift off to Israel and stay there forever.

people do war for resources of oil, uranium, etc. But I (and a thousand others and some poverty-fighter organizations) predicted that in 2014 we'll have a great, big war for fresh water. Can you believe that?

There is a saying that we agree to disagree. Wars are always part of human history. If you will consider Genghis Khan, he said that we make war due to two things, one is to have territory and longer food supply and two is to make good enemies(since man is "programmed" to compete.

Wars happen for many reasons. One reason is greed.
Once group of people think they have rights to certain lands for example.
It usually comes down to different beliefs about religion.
