I asked atheists the same question last week, which would bother them the most, a curse or a prayer. Apparently they were not fearful of being under a hex or spell but were more worried about prayers. There must be something more powerful in prayers than in curses or spells.
The funny thing about it is that prayers are supposed to be a good thing whereas curses are supposed to be a bad thing, so when did good become bad and the bad become good? Putting a hex on a true believer wont work, but on a not so true believer, yes it might bother them a bit.

You poor poor un-saved guy. So much anguish. Rest assured I will surely pray for you brother/sister. By the way, you are welcome.
Arrgghh!!....just pulling your leg.
Point taken. I do speak like that sometimes. Sorry! Sorry! Next time I will (can't speak for others) say "May I pray for you? (good things of course)" If the person thinks my prayer stinks, I will respect that.
Next I go home and make voodoo doll...oops...I mean I go home and secretly pray for him anyway. Most 'un-saved' don't appreciate it anyway since they don't believe in prayer in the first place. They are just being nice and don't want to reject us outright. Most 'un-saved' people are nice people, cos nobody is born 'saved' anyway.

you make an interesting point. I suppose it comes down to motivation. What motives the person to pray for another and what is the motivation of one to cast a spell? For Christians it is their belief to intercede for all mankind and to request on their behalf as they would for their loved ones. What would be the reason to cast a spell or make a voodoo doll?

I am a Christian and many people that I pray for never know my name or saw me - nor do I know their names or have seen them. Being a Christian - believe me - is not about "emotional blackmail" (Yikes!) It's about faith and hope and love - but the Greatest of these is Love. Telling someone you will pray for them is our way of letting them know that we will not walk away and not think of them again. If you don't want to believe in God, it IS your choice. Christians know this too, we do have a compelling urge to open the door for you at every opportunity. The sad thing is there are a lot of people out there that call themselves Christians but pass judgment and sentence people all because they don't see them with "Christlike eyes". Those are the people that non-believers encounter that leave the bad taste in their mouths. Our jobs as Christians is to spread His Word, many people do that in many different ways. Some pray for you.... and some say they pray for you (Guess which I will be?) Thanks for your question.

Why do you assume all Christians respond to problems with, I will pray for you ? That is the response of an immature Christian. It is also what turn people away. Majority of people do not preach or teach the same Jesus and biblical laws that are really there. Lots of false teachers, ministers, christians, etc in the world, as was prophesied by Jesus himself !!

I love it when people offer to pray for me. I need all the help I can get. Prayers have worked wonders for me and I often pray for others because I know it will help them.

Wow. Just a touch bitter are we?
Most of the time, when someone is telling someone about something they're going through, they know that the person is saved and will therefore offer to pray for them. Prayer is powerful, even if you don't believe it. If you have problem with people doing this for you, tell them straight up or don't tell them your problems. What do you want them to say? Let me pay your doctor bill for you? Let me kill the guy? Or just, hey, that sucks. It's an show of concern and love. Get over it.

You can do all the voodoo, hoodoo, & spell casting you want. It doesn't offend me at all. I will still pray for you, and that isn't meant to be offensive. If having someone say they'll pray for you is offensive, maybe you should tell them. I am sure they do not want to offend you, and if you politely explain yourself they will stop!

I'll pray for you is not JUST a sort of favor for you. It is the ULTIMATE one can do for another in this world. As for your spells and dolls and rituals--I'd cast 'em out in Jesus' Name.
