Christians seem to think that the word "theory" means "guess". Because of this, they think that the theory of gravity, atomic theory, the theory of relativity, and the theory that the earth revolves around the sun, are all just guesses.

They fail to realize what the word "theory" really means.

Theory: A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.

Some think a theory is only a guess. In the scientific community it is far more. In science, a theory is a proposed description, explanation, or model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation. It follows from this that for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not necessarily stand in opposition.

I find it interesting that one of the "best" attempts of Intelligent Design to come up with legitimate argument is to use Information Theory. But heck, that's only a theory!

Eintstein's Theory of Relativity. Only a theory!
Maxwell's Theory of Electromagnetism. Only a theory!

The best logical explanation about something that has been widely excepted and tested hundreds or even thousands of times. It's the best Idea that Scientists could come up with, with our current knowledge. "Just a Theory" is not just a personal guess! WOW!

A theory is just the way someone thinks it could be but that doesn't make it a fact.

wow im geeting most people didnt pay attention in sciense class, as for me i slept through the english class's, but any way a theroy is not just an idea it is a proven fact supported by substantal evidence, example evolution, dont say its not fact, if you do then truly your an idiot tht never reasearchd it. and never read a single word about it, instead you just got info from other idiots tht never read about it either. and a hypothosis is the idea tht some thing could be fact i.e. god. jesus, heaven, hell, my twelve inch piano. see ideas tht have no factual bering what so ever, and dont say oh all tht has fact to back it up, cant say it just does, or well were here arent we, all tht proves is you have no argument so shut up. now you think well you prove god doesnt exsist, already have, no evidence of its exsistance so as of this moment it is still non exsistant till the hypothosis is proven with factual information not hersay and saying it just is. if tht is your argument then i could say well my dog is the reincarnation of jesus and you would prove it and i would use your argument prove hes not, or why should i have to he just is. so before you go saying creationism is a theroy you might wanna have actually facts to back up your hypothisis, then it would be a true theroy, not just an idea. dont get me wrong i have no problem with you people loveing your gods and all tht who haw. just know what you are talking about before you speak. hypothosis= heaven , hell, god , the devil, no proff of exsistance even after thousands of years of trying to prove they are real. theroy= evolution, chemicial combustion, digital radio signals hard evidence to back them up, also proven to be real in a realitively short time. so stop trying to force your views on everyone else, they wanna believe let them come to you. dont take it to public school. what kind of battle ground is tht. thts a place of learning not spirtuality.

Creationism is "just a theory" - which in the Christian context means something i half read, half made up mixed in with something my neighbor Fred told me he heard something about on the 700 Club.
