the majority of cases of stomach ulcers or gastritis are thought to be caused by a bacterium called "Helicobacter pylori", which lives in the mucus lining of the stomach. stomach ulcer are not caused by stress or spicy foods, though already present ulcers may be exacerbated by these things. H. pylori is thought to be transmitted through saliva or contaminated water, though it has not been proven.
H. pylori is in itself, harmless, and most of those harboring it show no symptoms. The reason it causes stomach ulcers is that, for reasons not yet understood, the body suddenly develops an immune response to the bacteria. The body sends white blood cells to fight the bacteria, but they are destroyed by the stomach acid. Affected areas become inflamed, and weakened, and over time become susceptible to erosion by the digestive juices. Eventually an open sore forms in the stomach, and may eventually become a hole or perforation in the stomach. In this case, immediate surgery is required.
Stomach ulcers are easily treated with antibiotics, R&R, and soft foods, allowing the stomach to heal itself. Following a disturbing worldwide trend in medicine, however, some strains of H. pylori are become increasingly resistant to antibiotics.
Occasionally stomach ulcers are caused by overuse of "non-steroidal anti-inflamitory" drugs such as ibuprofen. In large doses thes drugs can also weaken the stomach lining and make it more succeptible to attack by stomach juices.

They have discovered that stomach ulcers are caused by a certain bacteria, and ulcers are now treated with antibiotics. Stress can excelerate an ulcer because stress weakens your immune system response. But it is not the actual cause. I've been told that I'm not the kind of person who gets ulcers but the kind that gives them. Now seriously ulcers are caused by stress as Jan said. So the best way to be rid of them is to give your heart to JESUS and receive"The peace that passes all understanding".

Jan's right.
The vast majority of ulcers are caused by H. Pylori bacteria.
I do happen to be one of the very few that get ulcers without the bacteria. Mine is related to food alleriges.
