does it really matter? is God going to strike down on you for eating your fritos on sunday? I think that if he existed, he would have better things to use his time on.

You are right that no one else has to work to make the vending machine happen, but is someone working to keep the building open where the vending machine is? Where are you that you have access to a vending machine on the sabbath? On the surface it doesn't sound like a bad idea, but what's the bigger picture. Keeping the sabbath day holy can be really hard. Buying something out of a vending machine may not be the end of the world, and I think I could face the Lord on judgement day over that one, but I love the fact that you are thinking about it.

Hi,
The problem is not that you're "working" by buying a snack from a vending machine, but that you're buying. The Sabbath is a day to spend a quality time with God. Any secular thing should be avoided (of course, sometimes there are emergencies that need some care). It is a time for the Lord and you. Everything you do should be in agreement with His will.
Then, what can we do on the Sabbath?
This question could be answered by another question:
What did Jesus do on the Sabbath?
Jesus did good works on the Sabbath.
I'm sure the following webpage is going to help a lot:

You may also read this Sabbath question, I believe it will help to your question:

If you have any farther questions, please ask me. I'm a Seventh-day Adventist.
God bless you!

Seventh-day Adventist here.... the principle is one of spending the day in worship vs. rendering unto Caesar (basically what goes on in our commercial lives the rest of the days). The more you dedicate to delighting in the Lord, the more you will delight in the Sabbath and questions around vending machines and using credit cards to buy restaurant meals or gas or whatever, will all be irrelevant. Start looking for the the peepholes into Heaven and give up the loopholes.
God bless!

Jesus Himself said that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. He entered the temple on a Sabbath and ate the Bread of the Presence which was set aside for the priests.
Of course it is ok to buy from a vending machine, anytime. We've been set free from all those rules.
Have fun!

If you're Jewish, no, as you are not allowed to buy anything on the Sabbath, nor operate the electrical vending machine, nor carry money or the candy bar. So that would be quite out of the question.

No, if one moves that would be work. One must not use energy at any way or thou will be thrown into the pit of fire. So repent your sins and convert from your heathenistic religion that will not allow you to move on every Sunday!
'work is the amount of energy transferred by a force.'

God did not rest on the 7th day. He does not rest or sleep. He returned to His Throne to govern the affairs of the universe...
