We don't choose to live, we don't choose the cirsumstances we're born into and most of us are the product of accidental pregnancies. It's almost like we come to be out of some random birth lottery, so why do people expect their life to hold some sort of grand meaning or reward? Personally, beyond the personal and social level, I don't see any higher purpose to life, and I'm okay with that.

they like to feel that there's a special reason for them being there, a special destiny for them. it makes life easier to think ur special. nobody wants to feel the same as the few billion others out there and realize that they will not make a hue impact on anything "significant", that they won't change the universe, or that they are just stumbling along from moment to moment rather than being an important piece of some grand plan.

Actually, Gifted One, I believe we do indeed choose *everything*. I believe we choose our parents and the set of circumstances we will be born into so that we can best learn our lessons in each lifetime. I believe we do that for each lifetime, and continue improving ourselves until we learn it all, get it right, and find our way back home from whence we came.

As far as accidental pregancies, perhaps accidental on the part of the parents, but not accidental by God's order/plan. Life does indeed hold a grand meaning and reward and if you sincerely seeked out a meaning and purpose (sincerit is key) you would begin to find answers. Answers make you high on life!

...It is true we don't choose to live and don't choose the circumstances we are born into, but why wouldn't one want a life with purpose and meaning? What is your reason for getting up in the morning, living through the day, and then going to bed at night - is it just to do it all over again the next day?
...God has made an orderly universe, and the creation declares His greatness. It's too bad you believe that "most of us are the product of accidental pregnancies" - you must not believe in the sovereignty of God, but I do; and that people are born and exist because of Him and for Him. I have three children whom I love dearly, and they know that their being here is no accident.
...You say "I don't see any higher purpose to life, and I'm okay with that." I submit you are not as okay as you think. I challege you to consider two questions:
..Q.1) Who is Jesus of Nazareth?
...He claimed to be God, and the only way to God. He was born, died to pay for our sins, was buried, and raised on the 3rd day.
..Q.2) What does He expect of me? Each of us must believe on Jesus to have sins forgiven, and to be reconciled to God - then we can know God, go to Heaven when we die, and find life with meaning - abundant life in Him.
...I urge you to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.
(Acts 16:31)
...Whosoever will, may come.

I choose the purpose for my own existance. I'm going to do something with it while I'm here. I don't need a reward when I die.
