when i click on a sound icon in task bar it says "the audio device supported by this application is not detected. the application will exit.

Reinstall the sound card drivers. Find the drivers CD that came with your computer or download the drivers from the manufacture's website.

try going to control panel/ sounds and audio devices, and look over the setting to see if the the settings are changed from your prefered source, like clicking on Advanced Setup.
If that does not work and you know the brand of your sound card goto that site and download from support the driver for your card and re-install it.

if it is an onboard sound card, goto in to bios, tapping delete key while the system is starting and look for the section on onboard settings, maybe the on board sound was disabled and needs to be rest to enabled...

Go to your control panel and select sounds and audio devices...see what is going on in there.

If u dont have the disc to install the drivers again just go into control panel and go to "add hardware" and follow prompts
