We hired a DJ, Photographer and videographer at the same company and paid the down payment. When we ask for a receipt and a copy of the contract they told us to submit the reception order and send it to them and they will send a copy of the contract. After 2 weeks of calling and telling them we need it. They finally send this paper which we fill out with our information with no company heading, signature from them, a return address from the mail and just a handwritten note of what we paid and our balance.

No! To begin with it sounds like you are about to get ripped off. Tell them to return to you the down payment you gave. If they refuse then contact your local attorney general's office. Complain to them about the company. Every business even small business should provide you with a reciept and a handwritten note of what you paid. If the business had just started they could have prepared a company letter head on the computer. If they can't be professional with their company, then ask yourself, what type of service are they going to provide for my wedding?

Good luck on your wedding.

You could check the Better Business Bureau for complaints against the DJ, or you could even just search on google for the BBB and/or the DJ to see if anyone has positive/negative comments.

With my experience with this situation, the people usually allow you to see their contract and/or terms before you consider their services so I find that he wouldn't allow you to see the terms until you paid money very weird.

i think i would seriously check them out to make sure there laget
i would also get your money back from them and go with a different company.they gave you guys a rough time i wouldn't deal with them and tell them so to boot .if there a company they should be more professional.you don't need that kind of crap to worry about when your planning a wedding you've got enough on your mind.good luck

I think you should keep or not keep your DJ based on his performance, not his bookkeeping. I get how annoying it is to get the runaround with paperwork, but lots of people are that way, expecially "artists"

Did you talk to other couples who have used this DJ? Have you personally seen him in action? How big of a pain would it be to find a replacement?

I wouldn't ditch him over this alone, but you should trust your gut.

yea, doesn't sound good. any normal company that does weddings would not respond that way. I would definately look into that. Call the better business bureau. go get your money back!!
