Well because people starting hearing more about Islam (mostly lies and what bad people do and/or say). But some people whom Allah guided to the straight path researched it and were guided to the truth.

when people started hearing about Islam
mostly since 9/11
they wanted to find out the truth about this religion
so they did
and they studied it
and realized it is the only pure religion left on earth.
so they converted.
because Allah (which means "One God" in Arabic) has guided them.
that's why it is the fastest growing religion.

there is value of good in people's heart, and Islam, like other religion preaches only good things, some people misinterpret religions but some of them also spreads the knowledge resides within the religion.
