we loved our 78 :) look for a support group on yahoo groups, like this one,

they aren't worth that much with no engine. the coupes even less. You want a fastback! What engine did it come with? check the vin, you don't want one that came with a 4 or 6, you would have to change the whole chassis, the v8 would be preferable, they are pretty easy to find, any 302 or 5.0 will fit.
I just sold a 78 King Cobra on ebay for $2900 and it was in good shape, v8 and all :)
It's one of the sleeper buys out there, Mustang II fastbacks for under $5k Ebay always has several.
But if you happen to have the right motor and are hooked on the car, offer the guy $500 he just might surprise you and take it.

My first mustang was a '77 Cobra II. What a fun car. But it'll be a real chore to make you '78 into a high performance car. The engine bay is just big enough to put a 302 into. But there's no room for High Po headers. Sadly there's not alot of High Performance parts for these cars. Don't get me wrong, I love the '74 thru '78 Mustangs but if ya want more bang for the buck try to find an '87 or newer V8.

I own a 74 and Coupe and a 75 Chia v8 2.8 for a year now and i can tell u the car is a adorable except the engine which is a bit underpowered but with a 302 would be fine. The price i think is high for a car without engine maybe u can get one about the same price with engine. From my experience i can tell that in general the goods are : even without any mods or restoration it has good handling , unbelievable economy in gas, its totally reliable, after 32 years there is no rust in anything..and also has many fans dont listen what they say, all my friends want me to sell them to them:) once you get in you dont want to stop driving it..
The bad are its bit noisy , if it has no servo the brakes are weak and many electric cables needs to be changed because they r corrupted by the years.
Also for a good restoration it can cost u from 3 to 10.000$.For technical info look at the Haynes repair manual and some links www.mustangii.net www.mustangii.org www.mustangspecs.com www.mustangsandmore.com
I would say buy the car if not the specific at list a similar, its a classic.PS The Coupe version in my opinion is much more original "Mustang style" Prefer that !

Maybe a couple hundred dollars. No more. If this is going to be a car you will keep and drive every day for the next 3 or 4 years then it may be worth putting a motor in it. There is not many people who like this body style and as a result not many people are going to buy it in any condition. For 1500 dollars you could buy a running mustang from the 80's and be in much better shape.

I agree that the price is a bit much but don't let anyone tell you that these cars can't be fast! I had a 78 notchback with a 302/5-speed in it with a mild cam, headers and dual 2.5 inch exhaust, and with some fat tires in the rear, I could beat all the local camaros and firebirds without even trying! These are lightwieght cars and it doesn't take much to make them haul ***. Get it as cheap as you can, then get at it! Anyone can build a camaro or fox body mustang, be original build something different and build it for yourself, not to impress others.

lots of the Mustang fanatics "hate" Mustang IIs via fact they do no longer understand them or the placement wherein they have been produced and offered. some factors that they have got forgotten are: The 1974 Mustang II grew to become into the 1st Mustang to won Motor style's motor vehicle of the year award. The 1974, 1975 and 1978 variety years rank 6th, ninth and 10th in the precise advertising Mustang record and function outsold each and every Mustang for the reason that 1980. the only "cutting-area" Mustang to outsell the 1974 Mustang II grew to become into the 1979 Mustang which grew to become into the 1st year for the "fox physique" platform. The Mustang II has a greater following at the instant than maximum individuals understand. The Mustang II Registry consists of over 3200 automobiles in 40 countries. The Mustang II has long been a misunderstood Mustang inspite of the incontrovertible fact that that's area of the Mustang history and carried the Mustang call by using some extremely tough situations. As one proprietor has positioned it "there is greater Falcon on your Mustang than Pinto in mine"

The King cobra with the T top in Black and gold was the bomb...when it came out ...my aunt had one...that was the equivalent of a BMW 3 series or Miata roadster...if the engine , body, and transmission are good...for under 2 G's, you got a good deal...it would be cool if you put a 351 in there...maybe a 5 speed up grade, Torq Thrust II's, Goodyears or BF Goodwrench rubber..., a supercharger maybe....I would like to see it utilize modern sport import parts...even parts from Escort GT's or Focus SVT's.....if you got money and time, would be a cool project car if you kept it original or customized it....my only problem with it...was the car was slow.

The car is worth $1500 if it is in as good as shape as you say it is rather it has a motor or not. YES you can make it a fast car. Here is a number you can call to ask the questions you are needing to know 1-606-474-7790.

They aren't high demand, as you know, so the price seems high. You should be able to get a decent runner for that much money.

no this is not a good car. it'll never be cool or fast so don't waste your money on something this crappy, especially if it doesn't even have an engine in it. i might give 150.00 but surely not 1500.00
