Funny how we come by our knowledge we decide to believe. I was having a techie of over 25+ years of experience with Windows systems work on my computer, fine tuning it so it would purr again, and I brought up the question of Vista to him. He is a man of very few words. For that question, no words at all, strangely enough. He stopped what he was doing and made eye contact and then shook his head slowly sideways back and forth to indicate a solemn "No" and that single gesture was all I needed. I also understand it is fairly expensive and requires quite a lot of computer power. It is such a personal choice, however. Some knowledgeable people feel it is best not to rush toward it, but to wait at least two years until all the bugs have been ironed out of it. I am just a novice on a fixed income in my sixties. I mean - duh. So when he shook his head no, that was it, as far as I'm concerned. I also noted that the latest Dell promotions say in clear English "Dell recommends Windows XP Professional" or words to that effect, indicating they are not recommending Vista. I like the remark about being just fine for about five years staying with Windows XP Professional. It is a very stable operating system. I will not be getting Vista. How did you know that already?

It is over prised but have found that it has some useful business features but not all old software work including many microsoft once which makes it useless for my work because I have to wait for upgrades for those software however it's more stable on my Pentium D than on my P4 so that means I will have to buy all new machines for my office. In the end I will end up spending more than £200.

Yeah, it is a rip off. It is a way for Micro-barf to earn more money on something people don't really need.
XP should be perfectly fine for the next 5 years or more. Of course not if Micro place decides to stop support on it though.
And for people that keep touting Linux. Tell me any store where I can walk into the store and by a game/software based off Linux?

Sure sounds like a Rip off. I just got an email from my ISP that if I "upgrade" to Vista my ISP software won't work.

Bill has to make up for his losses in Msoft stock value.
Bill thinks he should get paid by the lines of codes in his OSs.
Bill thinks we are hooked on his crap and will always end up paying.
BS (Barbara Striesand) form Bill and Bad Luck for Vista.
