Must have been a fairly hard blow unless a smaller breed. If this just happened apply a cold pack to area as dog will allow, reduce swelling around eye area. Watch for excess tearing or discharge from eye. Obviously some broken blood vessels.

She needs to be in dimly lit area as to not agravate the eye. Keep her calm. Check for swelling of eye and area, puffy feeling around the eye. Ice pack or cold clothes.

Understand about finding vet on weekend. Some do have a emergency # for after hours and emergencies. Our rescue is in a rural area. We have to deal with a lot of emergencies on our own but have been doing this a long time.

Most eye ointments used for dogs will have Neosporin or Bacitracin in them. Check first aid kit. Use only a tiny bit in corner of eye.

Keep a close eye on her and for any changes in behaviour or the eye itself. Try calling the vet and see if anyone is on call for advice. She should be seen Monday for sure. Blood can collect behind the eye and cause severe damage.

Depending on the force of the hit, she should have trauma to her brain, which can cause aniscoria or difference in pupil size from one eye and the other. I'm sure she is really painful (eye injuries are the most uncomfortable) and needs pain medication. Injuries related to the eye are always considered emergencies, especially to save sight in the eye. I would call whatever emergency clinic is within any distance of you and have her seen . Unfortunately, you cannot give her anything nor put anything in her eye to help her because you could make it worse. She could be suffering anything from a detached retina to brain trauma and should be seen by a vet.

Look up 'hyphema' for more information. Anti-inflammatories are the most common treatment, but if the globe of the eye itself is not damaged it will probably resolve with time. There is some risk of clotting inside the eye interfering with vision, and even causing internal adhesions which may cause problems later. Your veterinarian can give you a better evaluation of the situation and an idea of future prospects.

An eye injury like this should be checked out by your vet. It could be serious and cause her to lose her sight if left alone. As a person who has dealt with a lot of issues with my eyes for the past 3 years, I know how precious sight can be.

It sounds like she has broken some capillaries/vessels in her sclera (white portion of eye). If her pupils are uneven (one dilated (large) and one constricted (small), I would take her to an animal hospital ASAP to rule out a head injury or even a potentially serious eye injury.
